New Entrants
~Straight off of a hit-bound debut last week, we have PRETTYMUCH with Summer On You. I'm happy to see this one here. The band's vocals are fairly enjoyable, and while there isn't much to the production I still enjoy it. There's some pretty clever wordplay in it. The band is essentially a One Direction wannabe, and as recent 1D wannabes have failed to graduate hit-bound (Tattoo, Trust Fund Baby) I'm surprised this one made it. But it's solid, I hope it does decent.
~Next, we have lovelytheband making their first countdown appearance with broken. This song has been hanging around hit-bound since the start of May, and I honestly thought it would never debut. And I don't like it as much as I used to, but it's still good I guess. The production is kinda messy, but it's okay. The vocals aren't the best. But I really like the lyrics. So while it's green for now, it's very close to blue. I don't expect it to last here.
Hit-Bound:
- Pnau - Go Bang (DEBUT)
- Weezer - Africa
- Years & Years - If You're Over Me
- DJ Khaled/Justin Bieber/Quavo/Chance The Rapper - No Brainer (DEBUT)
- Brown & Gray - Top Down
- Zedd/Elley Duhé - Happy Now
- Charlie Puth - The Way I Am
- Train/Cam/Travie McCoy - Call Me Sir
- Ariana Grande - God Is A Woman
- Justin Timberlake - SoulMate
- Bebe Rexha - I'm A Mess
- Dan + Shay - Tequila
- Big Boi - All Night
- Noah Cyrus & MAX - Team (DEBUT)
- Dennis Lloyd - Nevermind
~I've only listened to Go Bang once, so I don't have much of an opinion on it. I'll review it next week.
~Honestly, No Brainer is just a slightly worse version of I'm The One. It's still good though. Everyone sounds good, and the production is catchy. And Hits 1 finally didn't edit out Quavo! Anyways, more on this if it debuts.
~I enjoyed Team a lot back when it was on the YouTube 15 on May 19th. I still like it. Noah Cyrus sounds good (for once) and MAX sounds amazing. The production is chill, but it works well. It's a really sweet song, and apparently it's about Noah's grandparents. I hope this debuts pretty soon, but I have a feeling that it might be hit-bound for a while.
My Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. Brown & Gray - Top Down
2. Noah Cyrus & MAX - Team
3. DJ Khaled/Justin Bieber/Quavo/Chance The Rapper - No Brainer
4. Dennis Lloyd - Nevermind
5. Zedd/Elley Duhé
Blurbs On You
~In terms of our exits, we lost Too Good and Rich. I don't think anyone here really cared about the latter, so that leaving is whatever. But almost everyone here loved Too Good. I say almost because (as you can see) I didn't like it. I found it annoying and there was absolutely nothing special about it. Even Kid Kelly mentioned he loved it. I'm glad this flopped, and I won't miss it at all.
~Honestly, Hits 1 needs to stop calling the countdown the "45 Biggest Songs In North America". Because the biggest song in the country, In My Feelings, dropped on it's second week. Just because it's Drake. Meanwhile, we have two songs from Brendon Urie (which are not popular anywhere else) in the top 10. Hell, Say Amen even spent 4 weeks at #1, and High Hopes seems bound to hit #1 next week. If that happens, it will be very hard for me to not put them in red. By Hits 1 logic, if a song is by Brendon Urie it has to do well. They even posted on their Instagram "Raise your hand if you think @brendonurie might be one of the best people walking this earth." Really, guys? At least try to seem impartial. Also, another practically unknown song in I Wanna Know re-entered the top 10 this week, as it's totally inoffensive and they just want to be the next big EDM duo, like The Chainsmokers. Hopefully with The Chainsmokers releasing radio-friendly tracks again this can drop. It better fall soon.
~Whew, okay. Glad I got all of that off my chest. Anyways, FRIENDS annoyingly is back in the top 5. I hope this stays away from that #1 spot, and that Delicate stays there for as long as possible.
~One Kiss and The Last Of The Real Ones are coming very close to the top 10. Hopefully the enter next week so some of the mediocrity there leaves (Brendon Urie, I Wanna Know, Don't Go Breaking My Heart etc.)
~Colour took a massive drop this week. This song wasn't going to stick with me in the long run, so I'm fine with it dropping. On the other hand, Love Lies took a huge jump right into the top 20. I hope Hits 1 doesn't treat this like they did Young Dumb & Broke and have it fall a lot soon.
~Why is One Foot still here?
~IDGAF dropped a lot, and as it's died out elsewhere it's days are numbered. It had a good run though, and is almost a lock to make my Top 45 Songs at the end of the year.
~Damn, In My Blood is falling fast. As I'm getting sick of it, I'm fine with that, but it's weird to think that two weeks ago it was #1. Also, speaking of songs falling, Whatever It Takes is out of the top 10 for the first time in 20 weeks. I may not like the song anymore, but what a run it had. With Natural gaining, I don't see this getting any higher.
~I'm shocked by Jumpsuit falling so soon. I thought for sure this would be a hit, as it's an okay song and it's by Twenty One Pilots (Hits 1's favorites). I guess it just wasn't meant to be. I still see it sticking around the Alt-8, but I'm a little disappointed it flopped here.
~Sorry if this post seemed like one big rant. A lot of stuff happened this week that kinda annoyed me.

Umm I Wanna Know as a Chainsmokers ripoff? You are entitled to your opinion, but I feel like it is just your typical EDM song. Really isn't that much of a ripoff imo.
ReplyDeleteI meant it more as NOTD want to be the next Chainsmokers, sorry if that wasn't clear
DeleteThird, and I gotta say that I love Team. It is amazing.
