New Entrants
~Only one new song this week. Chance The Rapper recently released four new singles, and I haven't gotten around to listening to all of them yet, but I haven't heard great things. 65th & Ingleside is not Chance's best song, but it's still pretty solid. The high-pitched voices are a bit annoying, but his flow is really good as always. The lyrical content is good too. Overall, great song and I hope it does well.
65th & Blurbeside
~We only lost one song this week: Jay Rock's Win. I didn't like this one that much so I don't mind seeing it go.
~Of course Sad! is here. Because apparently, people think that X has talent? I don't get it at all, and I don't think anyone here really gets it. His obnoxious mumble-rap is intolerable. It is of course awful that he died because no one deserves to die that young, but that doesn't mean I have to like his music. And his biggest song is about him threatening to kill himself if someone dumps him... That should speak for itself.
~The Way Life Goes [Remix] is my guilty pleasure of 2018 so far. I never hated XO TOUR Llif3 from last year, but I'll be the first to admit that Lil Uzi Vert did not sound good on that song. However, he has really stepped up his game here. He actually sounds good. And I really enjoy Nicki's verse. Great song, but it seems to be dying out.
~I find it a little odd that 92 Explorer is here despite not being a single. It's one of the best songs on the album, so I won't complain, but it's weird. The host, DJ Ninja 9, said it was her favorite song so that might explain why it's here.
~Just when I thought Lucid Dreams might be falling, it takes a big jump right up there to 4. While I don't hate the song, I don't like it, and it's being really damn overrated. I'd like for this one to leave soon.
~Another song where I don't understand it's success is Yes Indeed. This song is just annoying. While Drake sounds decent, Lil Baby has terrible flow. I hope this one starts dropping soon, because I don't want to worry every week that this will be our #1.
~Speaking of hitting #1, G-Eazy did that with 1942. It's a pretty good song, and it's better than the rest of the top 5. Aside from the Halsey name drop, I enjoy this song. I wouldn't mind seeing it at #1 for a little longer.

Very interesting thing to review. I personally am probably one of the only people here who is open to rap music. I think you should do more considering that I listen to some Hip-Hop Nation once in a while but don't get to listen to the countdown that much. Great post!
ReplyDeleteInteresting idea. I think you should do this more often. I usually like most rap music too, although everything you said about Sad is 1000% true. The fact that X was shot and killed at 20 years old is fucked up and doesn’t give me high hopes for the future of society, but it’s not like that guy gave me high hopes for the future of the music industry anyway. Nice post!
ReplyDeleteInteresting. Well, I think that Genius is awesome song, in my opinion, I feel like I can listen to it a lot. It has a great and catchy beat. I feel like this song is about Sia, Labrinth and Diplo. I know that it's true and I wish I could listen to that song. It's amazing! Anyway, awesome post!

DeleteChase, please stop giving completely random, off-topic comments. I, for one, really like this post, and I didn’t even know that this station or countdown existed! It is very interesting, and while I am agreeing that a lot of rap these days sucks, I am open to it as well, and feel that we have gotten a lot of very good rap music this year. When I do Billboard posts, it’s mostly rap anyways, so I review a lot of it. I’m really surprised that 92 explorer is a hit here, but I’m not complaining it’s one of the best on the album. So, anyways, like the blog, if you want to check mine out here’s the url
