Ok, now let's get into it with #29:
29. The Weeknd - Can't Feel My Face
Weeks At #1: 3 (8/22/15, 9/12/15, 9/26/15)
Year-End Position: #12
The Weeknd has had three #1 singles, are they're all around the same quality. I personally, however, consider Can't Feel My Face to be the weakest. The groove of the production isn't the best thing in the world, but I really like everything else about the song. This is one of The Weeknd's best vocal performances. I think he has a really cool voice. The lyrics are super interesting, as he frames his relationship with cocaine as a relationship with a person. Overall, despite being seriously overplayed, it's a great song that I'm glad was able to hit #1.
28. The Weeknd/Daft Punk - Starboy
Weeks At #1: 1 (1/7/17)
Year-End Position: #20
As mentioned above, The Weeknd's #1s are all around the same quality. This song benefits greatly from Daft Punk's on-point production. They give the song a great groove that was lacking in Can't Feel My Face. I find the lyrics to once again be fairly interesting, as he talks down to the audience but doesn't come across as obnoxious. And he stills sounds pretty great. I really don't have anything more to say, it only barely edged out Can't Feel My Face.
27. Sia/Sean Paul - Cheap Thrills
Weeks At #1: 4 (8/6/16-8/26/16)
Year-End Position: #11
I still really like this song. The production makes it incredibly catchy, and it was the radio's song of the summer back in 2016. I was at a camp when this song was huge, where our only way to listen to music was on a bad radio. And one of the only stations we got was 92 Moose, the hit music station around there. And I swear they played this every three songs. It was crazy. Sia sounds really good, and even Sean Paul contributes well. And I'm not a huge fan of him in general. This is still a great song, and it definitely deserved all the success it got.
26. Drake - In My Feelings
Weeks At #1: 4* (7/21/18-8/11/18)
Year-End Position: N/A
Here it is: our current #1 song. I've already talked about this song during my Weekend Countdown. I really like it. Drake sounds pretty good in it, and he chose some good samples. There isn't very much to the production, but I think that it works. The ending to it is very weird, but it also sounds pretty cool. So yeah, it's a great song overall. My biggest problem with it: how it got to #1. If it weren't for the stupid "In My Feelings challenge", then this probably wouldn't have even been a single. I like the song, I just wish it didn't take some dance craze to get it popular.
25. Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee/Justin Bieber - Despacito
Weeks At #1: 16 (5/27/17-9/9/17)
Year-End Position: #2
This song became slightly controversial, as it almost broke One Sweet Day's record for most weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. But since I don't really care about that song, that was never a problem for me. This is one of the catchiest songs of the past few years. All three artists involved in it sound great, and it's a very well produced track. Realistically, this only ever got to #1 in the first place because of Bieber. Do I think this deserved 16 weeks at the top? No, and that made me like it a little less. But it's still great and deserves this spot on the list.
24. Justin Timberlake - Can't Stop The Feeling!
Weeks At #1: 1 (5/28/16)
Year-End Position: #9This song managed to debut at #1, both through Trolls "hype" and the fact that it was a new JT song. And this one is just pure fun. JT sounds great, as I believe this is one of his best vocal performances. The lyrics are kinda dumb, but they work for a summer song like this. This was a song of the summer back in 2016, and it was certainly Hits 1's song of the summer as One Dance flopped there. This song was very overplayed, but it sustained decently well.
23. Post Malone/21 Savage - rockstar
Weeks At #1: 8 (10/28/17-12/16/17)
Year-End Position: #56
Post's first #1, many probably wish that this had never even charted as this really made Post huge. It spent a record number of weeks at #1 on Spotify, and did very well elsewhere. About the song itself, I think Post sounds pretty good here. 21 Savage's verse isn't the best thing in the world, but it's not terrible. It's a very well produced track. The lyrics are not desirable, but the rest of the song is great enough that I can look past them. Some people really hate this song, but I beg to differ.
22. Taylor Swift - Shake It Off
Weeks At #1: 4 (9/6/14-9/13/14, 11/15/14-11/22/14)
Year-End Position: #13
This song set the record for most weeks at #1 on the Weekend Countdown, and while it didn't do as well on Billboard it still was a force on the charts. It's not her best song (we'll be talking about that one in the next post), but it's really great. Once again, this song is just plain fun. Taylor sounds great, the production is solid, and I like the lyrics about it just being a kiss-off to the haters. The main problem with this song is weird speak-rap bridge in the middle of the song, but aside from that it's really great.
21. Drake - God's Plan
Weeks At #1: 11 (2/3/18-4/14/18)
Year-End Position: N/A
Drake's big comeback this year was certainly something. It's not his best song, as he still has two more songs on this list, but I still really enjoy this. It broke records on Spotify when it first dropped, but I didn't really listen to this for a couple weeks after it dropped. And then I didn't like it at first. But I grew into in record time. Drake's flow is pretty good, and the production is a little generic but I still like it. For sure the best part is the "she said do you love me..." part. I feel that this was overrated, but I still enjoy it enough. And let's be real, this will be Billboard's #1 song of the year.
Check back in later today or tomorrow for #20-#11.
