New Entrants
~Only one debut this week. It comes from The Chainsmokers with a new single featuring Emily Warren (again). They've released some... not great stuff recently, and basically became Twenty One Pilots wannabes. This is a step back in the right direction, though. I think their production here is really good (not their best, but good). Emily Warren sounds good, but I don't love the lyrics. However, I fully believe their next album will be awful. During an interview with Ryan Seacrest during the American Top-40, they said something along the lines of "our new album is a total mess. We just threw a bunch of stuff that we liked together". It bothers me how they only seem to care about making music to make money. But whatever, this is still a good song.
Hit-Bound
- Noah Cyrus & MAX - Team
- Train/Cam/Travie McCoy - Call Me Sir
- Ariana Grande - God Is A Woman
- Zedd/Elley Duhé - Happy Now
- Justin Timberlake - SoulMate
- DJ Khaled/Justin Bieber/Quavo/Chance The Rapper - No Brainer
- Years & Years - If You're Over Me
- Brown & Gray - Top Down
- Bazzi/Camila Cabello - Beautiful (DEBUT)
- Sabrina Carpenter - Almost Love (DEBUT)
- Charlie Puth - The Way I Am
- NF - Lie (DEBUT)
- Weezer - Africa
- Dennis Lloyd - Nevermind
- AJR - Burn The House Down (DEBUT)
~Beautiful is probably the best hit-bound debut this week. I liked Mine a lot, and I think that Beautiful a step-up from it. It's a pretty sweet song, as Bazzi tells his girlfriend how beautiful she is. His vocals have improved a bit since his last countdown appearance. I love Camila's voice on this track. This is up there with Havana in terms of her vocal performances. I also find the chord changes on this song to be super interesting. I hope this can do well here.
~I would say that for right now, Almost Love is good not great. Sabrina Carpenter's last few songs didn't impress, this new one is pretty good. Don't get me wrong: it's pretty generic. But I think her vocals are good, and there's a couple cool lines. More on this if it debuts.
~I have a love-hate relationship with Lie. I really do like the production here, but the main problem I have is with NF himself. His flow isn't my favorite thing, as he's clearly just an Eminem wannabe. Lastly, the lyrics. These would be the most obnoxious lyrics here if it weren't for a certain act's returns, but these still suck. NF blatantly does not care about what his ex is saying, and he claims that whatever she says is a lie. I've had people like that in my life, and this just pisses me off way more because of that. This is in blue right now, but it could easily change into red very soon.
~I don't hate Burn The House Down like I did at first. I also don't like it anymore. The weird synth-horns are starting to annoy me. The lyrics are easily the worst part of the song. It's kinda hard to explain why they piss me off, but they're just so pretentious and stuck-up that it bothers me. I don't hate their vocals here, but I don't like them either. And with all its success on Alt-Nation, I'm also tired of this. Expect this to be in red very soon.
My Top 5 Picks
1. Brown & Gray - Top Down
2. Noah Cyrus & MAX - Team
3. Dennis Lloyd - Nevermind
4. Bazzi/Camila Cabello - Beautiful
5. DJ Khaled and Friends - No Brainer
Blurb Effects
~I didn't really care about Tell Me You Love Me. I won't miss it that much.
~Well, we have a new #1. And I'm not happy about it. It's an okay song, but it frankly does not deserve to be in the #1 spot. High Hopes is nowhere to be seen on any other charts. I think it's okay if Hits 1 picks up on lesser known songs. I don't think it's okay if they let a song hit #1 just because it's by Brendon Urie. I thought Pray For The Wicked was a decent-at-best album, and I'm getting very frustrated by how Hits 1 is treating these songs.
~Our top 10 had a bit of turnover this week. FRIENDS surprisingly dropped out, and Don't Go Breaking My Heart slipped a little bit. Meanwhile, Whatever It Takes is back in the top 10 (ehhh....) and The Last Of The Real Ones makes its debut there (whooo). I don't expect many of these to last, but I'm glad that we're getting at least some movement at the top.
~Our entire top four remains the same. I don't mind that much, as we have some great songs up there, but it's getting a little boring when we have the same four songs for three weeks in a row.
~It looks like it'll be the end of the road for Alone. I did like this song, but I think the remix is far superior. I don't mind this leaving.
~Uggghhhhhh. Why is I Like Me Better jumping up 10? This is not okay at all. I don't know how I ever liked this song. I hope this is just a one week thing, but I fear it could continue to climb.
~And No Tears Left To Cry dropped out of the top 20. Not cool, Hits 1. I was just starting to really grow into this song, and it drops. It might recover soon, and I really hope it does.
~Colour made a nice recovery this week. Even though this isn't that big elsewhere, I don't mind it gaining a little steam here.
~Our two debuts from last week followed very different paths this week. broken dropped a spot and is appearing like it will flop here. Meanwhile, Summer On You makes a respectable jump. Hopefully this can have a decent run.
~Home With You is doing nothing here. Either make the song jump or drop, but it hasn't moved like at all since it debuted.
~Seriously, why is One Foot still here?
~Spyder made a mistake while introducing Let You Be Right. He claimed that it was holding its position, but in reality it dropped 9 spots. This looks like it could be on it's way out. I've lost some interest in this song, so I don't really mind. Meghan Trainor doesn't seem like she can get a hit these days.
~Jumpsuit is becoming a major flop for Twenty One Pilots. It dropped out of the Hot 100 recently, it's fallen nearly to the bottom of this countdown, and it's off the Alt-8 all together this week. I thought since this was by Twenty One Pilots it would do really well here, but I guess I was wrong. This might be something like what happened with Lady Gaga a little bit back, and Nico And The Niners will be the successful single.
