New Entrants
~Wow. 7 new entrants this week. The first comes from George Ezra with Shotgun. When I first saw the title of this song, I thought that it was going to be all about guns. I was pleasantly surprised that it was not. I like his voice a lot. And I think that the production is very unique and fun to listen to. It's all very different than most songs these days, which I like. I don't expect it to do well or to last with me, but I like it for now.
~.....God damn it. I was hoping this wasn't going to debut. I really don't get the appeal of Train. This song might just be their worst to date. Frankly, Pat Monahan sounds absolutely awful here. Cam's verse is forgettable and completely void of any personality. And then we have the absolute mess that is Travis McCoy's verse. But the worst part of the song are the lyrics, which are just beyond stupid in ways I can't even start to describe. I really don't know what any of the artists involved were thinking with this. Please leave as soon as possible.
~Top Down is a fairly solid country song. It is from last year, so I don't really know what it's doing here. Though I do really like this song, I don't have much to say about it. I think both artists involved sound very good, especially Kaci Brown. The rest of the song is fairly generic country, but there's something about it that just works really well for me. Maybe it's just how fun the song is. Anyways, I don't expect this song to be on the countdown for very long honestly.
~I've already talked about Weezer's cover of Africa on my Alt-8 posts. It's... not good? I think? I really don't know how I feel about this song. Maybe I'm just very sick of it, but I think I've actually turned on the song. I don't have anything to say here, read my Alt-8 posts if you want to know more.
~By far the best debut of the week comes from newcomer Dennis Lloyd with Nevermind. Everything about this song is amazing. The production is some of the best I've heard this year. Some may not like his vocals very much, but I personally think that they are great and work well with this production. The lyrics are pretty good, though they are slightly repetitive. Speaking of repetition, that's another reason that some don't like this song very much. Personally, I think that the repetition works well as it's just repeating really great stuff. This will likely appear fairly high on my Top 45 Songs of 2018 when that time comes around.
~Next we have more from Charlie Puth with The Way I Am. I may have this song in green at the moment, but I really wish he had chosen almost anything but this as the next single from Voicenotes. There were better songs. But on to the actual song, I think that Puth sounds very good here. The production isn't his best, but it's still pretty solid. And the lyrics are nice. Overall, it's a solid song, and with Hits 1's love for Charlie Puth I expect to do decently here.
~Lastly, with the highest debut of the week, we have Ariana Grande with the second single off of Sweetener entitled God Is A Woman. I'm not sure if this is better than No Tears Left To Cry, but I'm enjoying it for now. Ariana sounds really good here, and there are thankfully no backing vocals from Pharrell. Speaking of Pharrell, he also does not produce this track, which is probably for the best. The title may be slightly controversial, but it doesn't matter to me. Great song, and with the high debut I expect it to do very well here.

- Anne-Marie - 2002

- Bryce Vine - Drew Barrymore (DEBUT)
~8 new hit-bound entrants, so I'll try to get through these as fast as possible:
~Happier is mediocre. Production is decent, vocals suck. Read my full opinion in my last alt-8 post.
~I like Just My Type for now. It's a good pop song, but I don't really know how much substance it has to it. What I'm trying to say is, I doubt I'll like in a month.
~Thunderclouds is a very love-it-or-hate-it song. Clearly, I'm on the love side of that debate. Most of the complaints I've seen is that the song is "weird". My question is when did weird automatically mean bad? I think the production is fantastic, and Diplo's best on any of the three LSD singles. Labrinth sounds fantastic. Some may say that Sia sounds annoying, but I think her voice works really well for this type of song. So yeah, I love this song. But I doubt it'll debut.
~Oh wonderful, now Hits is picking up on Brendon Urie songs before they're even singles. Hey Look Ma, I Made It is mediocre at best, there's nothing special to it, and it won't deserve the #1 spot when it get there.
~Should Solo be better considering who is involved? Yes. Does that stop it from being a good song? No, not really. Demi sounds great, and while the production isn't Clean Bandit's best it's still ok.
~Kamikaze is catchy for now, but knowing my usual relationship with Walk The Moon songs I'll hate it in a few months.
~I wish I liked Promises more than I do. I love both Calvin Harris and Sam Smith when they don't collab, but when they work together it just doesn't quite work. I still like the song, but it's missing something.
~Drew Barrymore is boring and mediocre, his vocals aren't good, the lyrics are lame.
~Two songs left us. Team is gone for good, and I don't really care. SoulMate might be gone, might not.
My Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks:
1. LSD - Thunderclouds
2. Bazzi/Camila Cabello - Beautiful
3. Zedd/Elley Duhé - Happy Now
4. Anne-Marie - 2002
5. DJ Khald & co. - No Brainer
I Got My Top Down Blurbin'
~Ok 7 exits let's go through them rapid fire: Meant To Be was overhated, but it had a good run. Pray For Me did better than anyone expected. One Foot was way overdue. Colour was a huge flop. Mine was underrated here. Love Is Bigger Than Anything In Its Way is extremely forgettable. And Babe hung around for longer than I would've thought, but I'm still sad to see it go.
~Growing Pains took a pretty big drop this week. I could not care less about this song. Speaking of songs I couldn't care less about, Tequila had the biggest jump. This is a prime example of how not to make country music.
~In My Blood rebounded back in the top 20. I'm really tired of this song, I hope it drops back down soon.
~Say Amen annoying remains in the top 10. As does Whatever It Takes. I would very much appreciate if this songs would fall very soon.
~Side Effects took quite the drop after it's huge jump last week. I've really been enjoying this one recently so I would appreciate it if it could rebound soon.
~I originally planned to have a big rant here about Hits 1's biases, Drake at #43, etc. But frankly I don't have the energy for it. So here's my thoughts summarized:
YouTube 15
I listened to the YouTube 15 so why not review it?

- Fall Out Boy and Panic! should not be hitting #1.
- I Wanna Know shouldn't be on this countdown.
- J Balvin and Bad Bunny shouldn't be edited out of I Like It. It looks like they edited Willy William out of Jason Derulo's new single, and I am not surprised in the slightest.
- I keep forgetting that Go Bang exists. Get it out of here.
- Let a Drake song get in the top 20 please.
- Over half the top 10 should not be bands that Hits 1 is obsessed with.
YouTube 15
I listened to the YouTube 15 so why not review it?
- Bebe Rexha/Florida Georgia Line - Meant To Be
- Khalid/6lack/Ty Dolla $ign - OTW
- Ina Wroldsen/Alok - Favela
- DJ Khaled/Justin Bieber/Quavo/Chance The Rapper - No Brainer
- Alan Walker/AuRa/Tomine Harket - Darkside
- Cardi B
/Bad Bunny/J Balvin- I Like It (Radio Edit) - Matt Nathanson - Long Distance Runner
- Post Malone - Better Now
- Sigala/The Vamps - We Don't Care
- Drake - In My Feelings
- AJ Mitchell - Girls
- Ariana Grande - No Tears Left To Cry
- Jonas Blue/Jack & Jack - Rise
- Maroon 5/Cardi B - Girls Like You
- Hayley Kioko/Kehlani - What I Need
~OTW is good, but not quite great. I am a pretty big fan of Khalid, as I think he has one of the most interesting voices these days. Ty Dolla $ign's and 6lack's verses are both pretty good. I don't expect this to be a big hit, but I wouldn't mind it if it did.
~Favela is extremely catchy and fun. The vocals are great. And just everything about this song works. I hope this can become a hit.
~Darkside is another example of how great Alan Walker. I really like everything about this one. I could see Hits 1 picking up on it, so I'll talk more about it then if that happens.
~We Don't Care is a pretty solid song. I really like the drop, and the vocals sound good.
~Girls is one of the most generic song I've ever heard. AJ Mitchell is another teenage "singer-songwriter" and frankly 99% of them have no talent, including him, HRVY, Jacob Sartorius, and many more.
~Something about Rise annoys me. I don't quite know what. It kinda reminds me of an AJR song, but better.
~I struggle to get on-board with Hayley Kioko's music. I think most of it is good, but it's not as good as most say. What I Need is enjoyable but I'll likely get bored of it if it becomes a hit.
