Billboard Overview - Week of 8/25/18

Hi everyone. This is my first of these posts. If you don't know what's happening here, read my update post from a couple days ago. Let's get right into it:

Hot 100
Out of the Top 20:
27. Travis Scott - STARGAZING (#8) [-19]
23. YG/2 Chainz/Big Sean/Nicki Minaj - Big Bank (#16) [-7]

14. Drake - Nice For What (#12) [-2] {8 Weeks At #1}
13. Post Malone/Ty Dolla $ign - Psycho (#13) [=] {1 Week At #1}
12. Ariana Grande - No Tears Left To Cry (#14) [+2]
11. Khalid/Normani - Love Lies (#15) [+4]
10. DJ Khaled/Justin Bieber/Quavo/Chance The Rapper - No Brainer (#11) [+1]

3. Cardi B/Bad Bunny/J Balvin - I Like It (#3) [=] {1 Week At #1}
2. Maroon 5/Cardi B - Girls Like You (#2) [=]
1. Drake - In My Feelings (#1) [=] {6th Week At #1}

~We got three new songs in our top 20. I used to really like Youngblood but it's faded on me a bit. Perfect is back because of course it is. Lastly, we got Barbie Dreams debuting all the way up at 18. The lyrics of this song are super "gimmicky", as she disses other rappers and producers. But I don't hate her flow here or the production, but I don't love them either. I don't see this sticking around for very long.

~In My Feelings is currently a fairly dominant #1, but it could be weak to some other songs. God Is A Woman could pose a challenge to it next week, and I believe that the week after BTS will get a #1 debut. Fucking wonderful, BTS getting a #1 hit. I hope Ariana can get up there though.

~How is Yes Indeed still in the top 20? I'm confused.

Billboard 200
Out of the Top 10:
20. Mac Miller - Swimming (#3) [-17]
15. Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (#9) [-6]
13. YG - Stay Dangerous (#5) [-8]
12. The Greatest Showman (#10) [-2] {2 Weeks At #1}

10. XXXTENTACION - ? (#8) [-2] {1 Week At #1}
9. Jason Mraz - Know. (DEBUT)
8. Cardi B - Invasion of Privacy (#7) [-1] {1 Week At #1}
7. Aretha Franklin - 30 Greatest Hits (RE-ENTRY)
6. Juice WRLD - Goodbye & Good Riddance (#6) [=]
5. Post Malone - beerbongs & bentleys (#4) [-1] {3 Weeks At #1}
4. Trippie Redd - LIFE'S A TRIP (DEBUT)
3. Drake - Scorpion (#2) [-1] {5 Weeks At #1}
2. Nicki Minaj - Queen (DEBUT) {0 Weeks At #1)
1. Travis Scott - ASTROWORLD (#1) [=] {2nd Week At #1}

~I'm happy that Aretha Franklin got to return here. It would be nice if she had hit #1 though.

~Frankly, Queen is just soured by Nicki's behavior. The album itself is nothing special, and Nicki is desperately trying to remain as the "Queen of Rap" even though Cardi B is doing this whole thing much better. I hope it doesn't stick around here for too long.

~Remind me what's special about Trippie Redd again? He's just another lifeless, boring, generic rap mc who contributes nothing to the industry. But he still gets to have a #1 debut. And it's above Aretha Franklin. Joy.

~I like Know. for now. I don't think I'll be re-visiting this album anytime soon, but it's pretty good. Most of the songs are pretty well written, and I like Jason Mraz's voice. The production is kinda basic though. I don't expect this to stay here for very much time at all.

Artist 100

2. Nicki Minaj (#45) [+43]
1. Travis Scott (#1) [=] {2nd Week At #1}

~Nothing interesting really happening here. Ariana will #1 tomorrow, BTS the next week.

So now it's time to choose the artist who had the Best Week and the Worst Week. It's a little hard this time, as no one had particularly good week. I guess I'll give it to Trippie Redd as he did much better than he really should have. Worst Week definitely goes to Nicki Minaj. She should have been able to get a #1 debut and album bomb, but failed at that pretty badly.

  1. In the Billboard 200 chart, you wrote ‘SAD!’ instead of ‘?’. Otherwise, great post!

    Oh, and what’s special about Trippie Redd is his obnoxious and unenjoyable sing-screaming. People apparently like that for some ungodly reason.

    1. What’s the challenge, to stop listening to it so it can leave the Top 5? Easy.
