New Entrants
~We got three new songs this week. The first is from dance music trio PNAU making their countdown debut with Go Bang. I had no opinion on this one last week, but I've got one now. It's extremely mediocre. I find the production to be decent, but the vocals are incredibly annoying. The lyrics make absolutely no sense at all. As this is one of the random unknown songs that Hits 1 picks up on, I don't see this staying around for too long. But I could be wrong. However, I don't see this one growing on me at all.
~Next up we have country duo Dan + Shay bringing us their first song on the countdown with Tequila. I do like some country music, but I really can't get behind this one. It's just so.... boring. The vocals and production both have basically no life to them. And the lyrics are just as flat. The singer complains about thinking of his ex when he drinks tequila, but the problem with this is that there's a very simple solution to his problem: don't drink tequila. And yet, I don't hate the song. I don't see this growing on me very much in the future, or getting very high here, but we'll just have to wait and see.
~Lastly, we have Bebe Rexha bringing us her second song currently on the countdown with I'm A Mess. I'm sure that many in the blogging community were not looking forward to hearing more from Bebe after Meant To Be was not to their liking, but I did enjoy that song so I was interested to see what her follow-up would be. I first heard this song when she debuted it on The Morning Mash-Up, and I've basically enjoyed it since. I think her vocals are pretty good here, and the production is a step-up from Meant To Be. The lyrics are a step-up from it's predecessor. And not having Florida Georgia Line in a song can only be a good thing. Overall, great song and I hope it does well here.
Best Debut of the Week: Bebe Rexha - I'm A Mess (#30)

Best Debut of the Week: Bebe Rexha - I'm A Mess (#30)
Hit-Bound
- Justin Timberlake - SoulMate
- George Ezra - Shotgun (DEBUT)
- NF - Lie
- Anne-Marie - 2002 (DEBUT)
- Train/Cam/Travie McCoy - Call Me Sir
- Bazzi/Camila Cabello - Beautiful
- Zedd/Elley Duhé - Happy Now
- Weezer - Africa
- DJ Khaled/Justin Bieber/Quavo/Chance The Rapper - No Brainer
- Charlie Puth - The Way I Am
- Sabrina Carpenter - Almost Love
- AJR - Burn The House Down
- Noah Cyrus/MAX - Team
- Dennis Lloyd - Nevermind
- Brown & Gray - Top Down
~I like Shotgun pretty well for now. I think that George Ezra has a cool voice, and the production is pretty chill, but I like it. I don't see this sticking with me for very long, but for now I like pretty well.
~Next we have more Anne-Marie with 2002. If you've been reading this blog, you probably know that I hate FRIENDS and Anne-Marie's awful vocals in that were certainly a factor in my opinion. Here, however, I think her vocals have improved a lot, the production is pretty good, and I like the song references she throws in. More on this if it debuts.
~Two songs left us this week. God Is A Woman is 100% debuting tomorrow, but as it has been removed from the voting poll it's safe to say If You're Over Me is gone for good. While I did like the song, it had been fading on me with every listen. I'm not too heartbroken about it leaving.
My Top 5 Picks
1. Dennis Lloyd - Nevermind
2. Brown & Gray - Top Down
3. Bazzi/Camila Cabello - Beautiful
4. Anne-Marie - 2002
5. Zedd/Elley Duhé - Happy Now
I'm A Blurb
~We lost three great songs this week. I can safely say after listening to his ep First Time that Familiar is Liam Payne's best song. Shame that it had to do poorly. James Dean wasn't popular elsewhere so it was only a matter of time until it left. Lastly, Jumpsuit has departed after only four short weeks. I thought that this would be another #1 song for Twenty One Pilots and I was going to hate it by the end, but I was very wrong. I still really like the song, and it was a massive flop pretty much everywhere.
~Colour took another big drop this week. Frankly, I don't really like MNEK's voice in it that much. I don't know why, but it just doesn't work for me. Hence why the song is now in blue. I fully expect it to leave us next week.
~On the other hand, broken and Side Effects both made some pretty big jumps into the top 20. I'm pleased with both of these. I think Side Effects is The Chainsmokers's best song since Something Just Like This, and broken is a solid debut single for emerging indie band lovelytheband. I hope both of these can continue gaining.
~I Wanna Know infuriatingly hit a new peak at #6. Seriously, what is so good about this song? I find nothing about it to be unique or interesting in the slightest. And to add on to that, it's nowhere to be seen on other charts. Hits 1, please fix this.
~Before introducing Better Now, Spyder Harrison mentioned that Post Malone made the mistake of googling himself and found some comments from haters. I wonder if he was reading what some of the people here had to say about him... Anyways, Better Now made a nice recovery this week after it fell a little before.
~Speaking of nice recoveries, No Tears Left To Cry is thankfully back in the top 20. Sweetener was a really great album, and I'm glad that Hits 1 is treating the lead single off of it well.
~I know I ask this a lot, but how is One Foot still on the countdown? It gets stranger every week.
~During the 4-1-1, Nicole said that Pete Davidson's favorite song of Sweetener is not the one named after him. C'mon man, even if it's not your favorite at least say it is.
~I've been growing into Don't Go Breaking My Heart a little bit. Not enough to put it in blue, but enough to keep it out of my bottom 10 songs of the year. I still don't like it though, don't get me wrong.

Great post!
ReplyDeleteAnd your recommendation, my gosh that song is amazing.
Thanks. I think it's possible that they'll pick up on it
DeleteIf it becomes a single (which it very well could considering Ari did upload the official audio for it to YouTube and no other song from Sweetener), they'll absolutely pick up on it.
