New Entrants
~Let's go from worst to best with our debuts. Easily the worst comes from possibly my least favorite band ever AJR. Everything about this song is awful. The production sucks ass, as the beat is very bad and the synthesized-trumpets in the background are almost unlistenable. Their vocals just suck. I don't see who told AJR they should start singing, but they made a mistake. The lyrics are laughably bad, as it's basically AJR bragging. However, they claim it's to shed light on young people's thoughts on the current political system. As a young person, I can say that this song does not express my views on politics at all. I hope this flops hard here, but I fear that it could do moderately well like Sober Up did.

~Next up is another song that I find to be very overrated by the blogging community in Solo. I am a huge fan of Clean Bandit, and I'm kinda a fan of Demi Lovato so I had very high expectations for this song. And it was a pretty big disappointment. While I think Demi does sound good, the production is very mediocre and far from Clean Bandit's best. I really don't like the weird noises in the chorus, as choppy vocals almost never work for me. Especially not here, where the noises are very annoying and grating to listen to. I'm annoyed that this is here when I Miss You never graduated from Hit-Bound, and Symphony never even made it to Hits 1.

~Almost Love is very fun. I haven't been a huge fan of Sabrina Carpenter's music in the past, but this is a huge step up for her. I really like her vocals here and I think it's very well-produced. I love the chorus here, but the verses aren't quite as good. I don't really have much to say here so let's just move on.

~Easily the best debut of the week comes from supergroup LSD, or Labrinth, Sia and Diplo, with Thunderclouds. I've already talked about this group over in the Alt-8 posts where Genius had a ton of success. While I'm not sure if I like this new song more than Genius, it's still just fantastic. Sia had a very good voice, and while some may hate her here because she sounds "weird" I think that her voice is great here. Labrinth also sounds really great. I just don't understand how one can say he sounds bad here. Diplo production here is a huge step-up from that grating drop in Audio, as he goes for a more laid back approach which I really like. I hope this does really great here.

Best Debut of the Week: LSD - Thunderclouds (#31)

Hit-Bound

  • Kim Petras - Heart To Break
  • Shawn Mendes - Nervous (DEBUT)
  • Pitbull/Theron Theron - Free Free Free
  • Calvin Harris/Sam Smith - Promises
  • Anne-Marie - 2002
  • Tiësto & Dzeko/Preme/Post Malone - Jackie Chan
  • Silk City/Dua Lipa - Electricity (DEBUT)
  • The Struts/Kesha - Body Talks
  • Jason Derulo & David Guetta/Nicki Minaj/Willy William - Goodbye
  • Bryce Vine - Drew Barrymore
  • Walk The Moon - Kamikaze
  • The Vamps - Just My Type
  • Panic! At The Disco - Hey Look Ma, I Made It
  • Loud Luxury/brando - Body
  • benny blanco/Halsey/Khalid - Eastside
~Nervous sounds a lot like Bad Lair by Selena Gomez. I find the song to be pretty boring, but I love the lyrics here. It kinda reminds me of what it was like when I was in my first serious relationship about a year and a half ago. I wouldn't mind seeing this do well.

~One Kiss 2.0 debuts this week, except this time Dua Lipa is featured on a track from new EDM duo consisting of Mark Ronson and Diplo. I don't think this song tops One Kiss, but I still like it. More on this when it debuts.

My Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. benny blanco/Halsey/Khalid - Eastside
2. Tiësto & Dzeko/Preme/Post Malone - Jackie Chan
3. Anne-Marie - 2002
4. The Vamps - Just My Type
5. Silk City/Dua Lipa - Electricity

Burn The Blurbs Down
~Let's start with our exits. Want You Back flopped everywhere but here, and I'm glad it did pretty well. Alone and Growing Pains were both flops for Halsey and Alessia Cara respectively. Lastly, Go Bang thankfully lasted only 5 weeks. I will never understand that song.

~Four songs dropped over ten spots this week. The one I'm happiest about is I Wanna Know finally dropped 15 spots, putting it almost outside of the top 30. I don't know why this song was ever here in the first place. Next, Whatever It Takes is out of the top ten at last. Once again, Hits 1 has very much overrated this. The next couple both fell into the bottom 5. Summer On You has faded on me and I don't really care if it leaves soon. Unfortunately, Nevermind had the biggest drop of the week all the way down to #43. While I'm not surprised, I am sad about it. I hope it can stick around another couple weeks.

~Much to my annoyance, Don't Go Breaking My Heart enters the top 5 despite being gone everywhere else. I will never be able to understand how this is a good song at all. They don't sound go, the production is clunky, and the lyrics are the definition of boring and generic.

~Shotgun finally made a move this week. I find George Ezra to be a very talented individual so I hope we can see this get up a little higher here.

~Three new songs got into the top 20 this week. I can't say I'm happy about Tequila or I'm A Mess getting there. The former is a snoozefest, and the later is overproduced and melodramatic. However, I am happy to see Happier get there. I feel that this song is going to be a very big hit, and I'm definitely okay with that.

~Two hits fall towards the bottom of the countdown this week, being In My Feelings and No Brainer. While I still have them in green, they're both very close to blue. I fully expect both of these songs to leave next week.

~no tears left to cry is really falling a lot faster here than elsewhere. If it keeps dropping this fast, I doubt it'll make the year-end list, which is shame since it's a great song.

~Do my eyes deceive me? Is Say Amen really out of the top 5? It's about time, this should've left the whole countdown already.

~Girls Like You is having a very weird countdown tenure. It's already been #1 most places, and meanwhile here Hits 1 keeps taking it in and out of the top 10. I would appreciate if this got the respect it deserves and hangs around a little longer.

  1. Great post.

NTLTC will likely make the year-end list as it peaked at #4 and debuted back in May. It might get a lower spot though because “Brendon Urie is the best human being to live!!!!”

I am also very happy that IWK and WIT are out of the Top 20.

    1. My predictions have it at #32 right now, but it will likely only make it in the bottom 5 at best
