New Entrants
~Lie is just barely in red for me right now. I don't mind the production and his vocals are actually pretty good. But the lyrics just suck. I understand why someone might enjoy them, but I would like to highlight a few lines in particular that bother me:
You say all I ever do is just control your life
But how you gonna lie like that
I find it incredibly obnoxious that NF is attacking his ex in this way. His basically telling her that whatever she's feeling is a lie. Maybe she's telling you how she genuinely feels, but you're too blind and arrogant to see it.
You say you want a man that keeps it real
Then why you mad when I get real with you
These lines seem perfectly fine at first glance, but when you hear how he says them it brings up another set of problems. NF is very angry in this song. I think we can all see that. With this anger he has here, it makes me feel that he's probably approaching this girl with the same anger when he "gets real" with her. In which case, I think it's very okay that she gets annoyed with him. This may seem like jumps in logic to make, but honestly I'm basing it all on personal experiences I've had recently that these lyrics remind me of. So if you like these lyrics, that's totally fine. But they just really bother me.
~Next up is a song that really grew on me recently. While I really didn't like the vocals here at first, they've definitely grown on me. I think Dan Smith's voice fits this type of song well. But by far the best part of this song is Marshmello's production, which I personally think is his best to date. That drop is super catchy. I don't know if it'll stick with me in the long run, but it's safe to say that I'm enjoying it at the moment.
~Beautiful is by far the best debut this week. I like Mine, but this is a huge step-up from it. Bazzi's vocals have improved a ton. Also, I love Camila's voice here. I think she sounds fantastic. The production is also really catchy and a big step-up from Mine. And the lyrics are nothing special, but they also don't actively suck unlike one of other debuts. Overall, this is a great song and I hope to see it do really well here.
~Lastly, we have a song that has really faded on me. Zedd's production has been getting steadily worse, and Happy Now is almost his worse yet (Get Low exists). The production is just flat and generic, and the drop is nothing. Also, Elley Duhé is also a kinda nothing personality. And her vocals are.... meh. That's kind of my reaction to the whole song. And also that autotune at the end.... wow. I expected better from you Zedd.

- Panic! At The Disco - Hey Look Ma, I Made It (RE-ENTRY)
~Hey Look Ma, I Made It re-enters because Brendon Urie.
~Jackie Chan is amazing! I love everything about this song. The production here is great, especially that drop. Post Malone delivers what might be his best vocal performance to date, and even Preme sounds decent. More on this if it debuts.
~Free Free Free is kinda annoying honestly. We get a typical Pitbull verse where he goes on and on about nothing. Theron Theron sounds very annoying in the chorus, as he just constantly repeats the words "free free free" over. And over. And over. And over again.
~Heart To Break is decent. I think Kim Petras sounds pretty good. I've only listened to this once, so it'll probably grow on me soon.
My Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. Tiësto & Dzeko/Preme/Post Malone - Jackie Chan
2. LSD - Thunderclouds
3. Jason Derulo & David Guetta/Nicki Minaj/Willy William - Goodbye
4. Anne-Marie - 2002
5. Walk The Moon - Kamikaze
Are you blurbing now?
~Sorry but I just can't really do many blurbs this week. I got sick recently and have a bit of a fever, but I'll still touch on our exits. Never Be The Same exited after a very long tenure, and it'll make the year-end list. As will Wait, which lasted around the same amount of weeks as Never Be The Same. I Like Me Better also finally left, I don't know why I ever liked that song. I am, however, saddened about Done For Me. This is one of my favorites from one of my favorite artists. I also think it'll just barely miss the year-end list, which is really too bad.
