Billboard Overview - Week of 9/15/18

Hi everyone. This was the week of Eminem's album bomb, and it had a pretty big impact on most charts. Let's get right into it

Hot 100
Out of the top 20:
81. BTS/Nicki Minaj - IDOL (#11) [-70]
28. Post Malone/Ty Dolla $ign - Psycho (#18) [-10] {1 Week At #1}

10. Tyga/Offset - Taste (#8) [-2]
9. Travis Scott - SICKO MODE (#7) [-2]

4. 6ix9ine/Nicki Minaj/Murda Beatz - FEFE (#5) [+1]

2. Maroon 5/Cardi B - Girls Like You (#2) [=]
1. Drake - In My Feelings (#1) [=] {9th Week At #1}

~Four debuts and a song making its entry to the top 20. That's a lot. Let's first discuss our exits. Yes Indeed lasted way longer than it should have. Back To You is still gaining in performance so it'll rebound soon. Big Bank might come back, might not. Psycho is coming to the natural end of it's chart run. And IDOL crashed hard to 81 and probably won't be around much longer.

~Natural is gaining lots of steam because it an Imagine Dragons song so radio sees them as acceptable rock music to play. It's one of their best songs though so I'll take it.

~So we got four Eminem songs in the top 20 this week. Easily the worst of these is Kamikaze. That hook is just awful. And there isn't very much to the lyrics. Our second worst Em song is the lead single off the album. And... why? I just don't get it. The song isn't good in any way. The Ringer is decent, and not in the way where there isn't very much to it. There's too much to it. Em's flows decent, but the lyrics are not. We didn't sleep on Revival, Em. Lastly, we have by far the best debut of the week, and probably the second best song off of Kamikaze. The lyrics and both rappers on Lucky You are really great. I would honestly not mind if it stuck around.

Billboard 200
Out of the top 10:
19. XXXTENTACION - 17 (#8) [-11]
13. Ozuna - Aura (#7) [-6]
12. Cardi B - Invasion of Privacy (#10) [-2] {1 Week At #1}

10. Juice WRLD - Goodbye & Good Riddance (#9) [-1]
9. Why Don't We - 8 Letters (DEBUT)
8. BTS - Love Yourself: Answer (#1) [-7] {1 Week At #1}
7. Nicki Minaj - Queen (#5) [-2] {1st Week Where I've Run Out of Ways to Make the Same Joke}
6. Post Malone - beerbongs & bentleys (#6) [=] {3 Weeks At #1}
5. Ariana Grande - Sweetener (#4) [-1] {1 Week At #1}
4. Troye Sivan - Bloom (DEBUT)
3. Drake - Scorpion (#3) [=] {5 Weeks At #1}
2. Travis Scott - ASTROWORLD (#2) [=] {2 Weeks At #1}
1. Eminem - Kamikaze (DEBUT) {1st Week At #1}

~I honestly had no expectations going into Why Don't We's new album. Trust Fund Baby sucked, but Hooked is a legitimately great song that I still enjoy. And then I saw that Trust Fund Baby wasn't on the album. Overall, I enjoyed listening to this. I think that the production could use a little more edge to it, but their vocals are really good. I wouldn't quite recommend this, but I was pleasantly surprised by this album.

~God Bloom is boring. Troye Sivan has potential, but I don't like his voice very much and the production here is just background noise. I actually fell asleep while listening to this. So no recommendation for this one.

~Here's the big one: Eminem is back. Again. As you can see, I'm not on board with this new album at all really. The lyrically content is good at points, but he refuses to acknowledge that Revival was not good. The production ranges from mediocre to terrible on all but two songs. Em's flow is decent at parts, but why is Jesse Reyez here at all, let alone on two songs? Not cool, Em. But after this album was so successful, I see Em continuing to make these types of songs in the future. Just great.

Artist 100
Out of the top 10:
18. Nicki Minaj (#8) [-10]
12. XXXTENTACION (#6) [-6] {2 Weeks At #1}
11. Ed Sheeran (#10) [-1] {11 Weeks At #1}

10. Maroon 5 (#11) [+1] {2 Weeks At #1}
9. Cardi B (#9) [=] {1 Week At #1}
8. Travis Scott (#3) [-5] {2 Weeks At #1}
7. Troye Sivan (RE-ENTRY)
6. Ariana Grande (#4) [-2] {3 Weeks At #1}
5. Imagine Dragons (#7) [+2] {1 Week At #1}
4. Post Malone (#5) [+1] {2 Weeks At #1}
3. Drake (#2) [-1] {31 Weeks At #1}
2. BTS (#1) [-1] {2 Weeks At #1}
1. Eminem (#64) [+63] {2nd Week At #1}

~Eminem unsurprisingly rebounds to #1 here. But the surprising thing is that BTS hung on to the #2 spot this week. Just why America?

~Also back in the top 10 we have Maroon 5 due to Girls Like You, and Troye Sivan because of his album. I was being very generous to Sivan by putting him in blue, as I don't like his new album.

~Best week this time is very easy. Eminem got a #1 album, another week topping the artist chart, and charted every song off of his album (save for the "Paul skits"). But worst week is harder. But I guess I'll give it to 6ix9ine as his newest song appears like it will flop.

Genre Charts
Mainstream Top 40:
5. Selena Gomez - Back To You (#5) [=]
4. Cardi B/Bad Bunny/J Balvin - I Like It (#4) [=]
3. Maroon 5/Cardi B - Girls Like You (#2) [-1] {5 Weeks At #1}
2. Khalid/Normani - Love Lies (#3) [+1]
1. Post Malone - Better Now (#1) [=] {2nd Week At #1}

~I'm assuming that Love Lies will top this chart next week as it's taken over pop radio.

Hot Rock Songs:
5. Portugal. The Man - Feel It Still (#4) [-1] {5 Weeks At #1}
4. lovelytheband - broken (#5) [+1]
3. Imagine Dragons - Believer (#3) [=] {29 Weeks At #1}
2. Imagine Dragons - Thunder (#2) [=] {24 Weeks At #1}
1. Imagine Dragons - Natural (#1) [=] {4th Week At #1}

~I really would appreciate if Imagine Dragons didn't occupy the top four spots here.

Hot Latin Songs:
Out of the top 5:
6. Daddy Yankee - Dura (#5) [-1]

5. Ozuna - Unica (#3) [-2]
4. Nicky Jam & J Balvin - X (#4) [=] {3 Weeks At #1}
3. Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee/Justin Bieber - Despacito (#2) [-1] {53 Weeks At #1}
2. Lots of People - Te Bote (#1) [-1] {11 Weeks At #1}
1. 6ix9ine/Anuel AA - BEBE (DEBUT) {1st Week At #1}

~BEBE might just be 6ix9ine's best release so far. But it still sucks. I can't understand the lyrics, so that means I can't really hate them. But his flow and the production are as terrible as always.

~Also no good songs.

Out of the top 5:
6. Juice WRLD - Lucid Dreams (#5) [-1]

5. Eminem/Joyner Lucas - Lucky You (DEBUT)

2. Marshmello/Bastille - Happier (#4) [+2]
1. Zedd/Maren Morris/Grey - The Middle (#1) [=] {32nd Week At #1}

~Happier could actually dethrone The Middle next week. Wow. Also it sucks that One Kiss got blocked from being #1.

Hot Country Songs:
Out of the top 5:
6. Jason Aldean/Miranda Lambert - Drowns The Whiskey (#4) [-2]

5. Kane Brown - Heaven (#7) [+2]

~God damn we need something to replace Meant To Be at #1.
