~Expected losses for Eminem, but the interesting top 20 exit comes from Ariana Grande with no tears left to cry. This definitely has its year-end position on lock, but I would've liked if it stayed in the top 20 a little longer.
~We also have two returners to the top 20. Back To You has really good radio and nothing else. And Yes Indeed refuses to leave, much to my continued annoyance.
~So now it's time for our two new entrants into the top 20 this week. When I first heard RAP DEVIL, I rushed to declare it the worst song of the year so far. I no longer stand by that statement, but it still sucks really bad. The lyrics are totally useless, and it's pretty clear that Eminem won the beef. I would appreciate if this song got out of here like now.
~Yeesh bad week for our debuts. Kanye gets himself another top 10 debut, this time with Lil Pump (God damn it) and.... Adele Givens? I went into this with an open mind, as Kanye has made good songs before. But this is really not one of them. Pump's vocals are just awful, and Kanye doesn't sound good himself. The production is terrible, and I shouldn't have to explain why the lyrics suck. I feel like Kanye tried harder in the "whoop-de-scoop" song. That video was kinda funny though.
~So.... SICKO MODE grew on me. A lot. Now please get it to #1.

~I guess we'll go from worst to best. It was close, but the worst came from
~zzzzzz.... Huh? Oh, sorry, I haven't been getting much sleep recently, and this album just put me right to sleep. Anyways, this is a pretty big one, it's the return of Ade- wait what? This isn't Adele's new album? Ok, so jokes aside, this album sucks. Really hard. Lauren Daigle has no strength in her delivery and the lyrics are boring and generic. The production is weightless which leads to an awful album. So bad, that I couldn't actually finish listening to it. In fact, I got about halfway through and then gave up. Skip this also.
~I hate it when artists disappoint me. I had some expectations going into Russ's new album, as I assumed the great single Back To Life that he released a few months ago would be on the album. But then it wasn't. Ok, but if he can make a song like that I'm sure he can make more good songs? Well, not here at least. The album is nothing but him not using his voice well over annoying production with cocky lyrics. I can't say I recommend this either.
~I never considered myself a Mac Miller fan, but I was sad when he passed. I really had no idea what to think going into this album, but I ended up enjoying it for the most part. I think his vocals are pretty good, and I like the overall darker themes. I honestly wouldn't have minded seeing this album getting some bigger hits off of it, but I'm not shocked that it didn't.
~Ok time to actually praise an album. Paul McCartney is of course an icon, and it's nice to see him still being able to get a #1 album in 2018. I really wasn't sure if I would like this, but it is genuinely great. I really like the production here, as it goes for a more laid back, chill style. The lyrics are well written, and McCartney's vocals fit in very well. I would've like some features here (i.e. FourFiveSeconds) but I'll take what I can get. It's good to have you back, Paul McCartney.

3. Lauren Daigle (#49) [+46]
2. Eminem (#1) [-1] {2 Weeks At #1}
1. Paul McCartney (RE-ENTRY) {1st Week At #1}
~Yay for Paul McCartney at #1. Boo for BTS at #4, and Lauren Daigle at #3.
~I'm not quite sure what to think of Russ. He's released at least one great song in the past, but that album was not good.
~I'm surprised Troye Sivan fell off the chart entirely.
~Best week this week is a two-way tie. The first recipient is Paul McCartney for getting at #1 album and defying all odds, and the other recipient is (sigh) Lauren Daigle as her album did much better than I thought it would. I'll give worst week to Russ as he is a recognizable name who failed any songs off his album.

2. Maroon 5/Cardi B - Girls Like You (#1) [-1] {6 Weeks At #1}
1. Kanye West & Lil Pump/Adele Givens - I Love It (DEBUT) {1st Week At #1}
~A few things here are a bit different. For example, the #1 in Canada sucks. Also, Girls Like You actually hit #1 here and wasn't robbed of the top spot like it was in the States.
~By far the biggest difference is that Body is still #5 after 34 weeks on the chart, whereas it never even charted in America. I find it really interesting when there's a song that has this much variance between countries.

2. benny blanco/Halsey/Khalid - Eastside (#2) [=] {1 Week At #1}
1. Calvin Harris/Sam Smith - Promises (#1) [=] {2nd Week At #1}
~I'm surprised Eminem is arguably doing better on this chart than on the American one. I'm also surprised Shotgun was a #1 hit here.
~Girls Like You is only returning to its peak here, so this was where it did worst. Again with the whole Body being an international hit thing.
~Lastly, our top two. Promises is no surprise as it's Calvin Harris and Sam Smith collaborating, and they both get many #1s here. But I'm surprised a song that I believe is about a romance in New York City hit #1 here.
~I had to listen to a lot of bad music this week. Let's hope things get better soon.
Meh I don't like MGK's flow and delivery and the severe lack of any intensity in the song. If anything some of his lyrics are actually quite accurate, except for his lines about Hailee Matthers, which is arguably his fault for starting it and sneak dissing Em on a track with Tech Nine. But I wouldn't say it's bad, but quite underwhelming and I don't see it sticking around.
ReplyDeleteWrong again, Tequila should be #1 next week and Meant to Be should slip to #2.
