Twenty One Pilots (3) - Alt-18 Week of 11/3/18

Hi everyone. So this is the Alt-18 instead of the Alt-8 now. Cool. But this makes it take up more of my time. Not cool. Let's just get right into it with our only exit:

  • Winnekta Bowling League - On The 5 (#7)
18. Welles - Seventeen (DEBUT)
17. Weezer - Can't Knock The Hustle (DEBUT)
16. Rex Orange Country - Sunflower (DEBUT)
15. BROCKHAMPTON - SAN MARCOS (DEBUT)
14. Muse - Pressure (DEBUT)
13. AJR - Burn The House Down (RE-ENTRY)
12. Billie Eilish - you should see me in a crown (RE-ENTRY)
11. Death Cab for Cutie - Northern Lights (#8) [-3]
10. The 1975 - Love It If We Made It (#6) [-4]
9. Marshmello/Bastille - Happier (RE-ENTRY)
8. Houses - Fast Talk (#5) [-3]
7. Big Data/Jamie Lidell - Monster (RE-ENTRY)
6. Mumford & Sons - Guiding Light (DEBUT)
5. Bishop Briggs - Baby (RE-ENTRY)
4. Young The Giant - Superposition (#1) [-3] {1 Week At #1}
3. flora cash - You're Somebody Else (#2) [-1] {2 Weeks At #1}
2. The Interruptors - She's Kerosene (#4) [+2]
1. Twenty One Pilots - My Blood (#3) [+2] {3rd Week At #1}

New Entrants
~We've got a lot of these, so let's just go from the bottom to the top. Seventeen is the most average song I've like ever heard. The guitar line in nice, but nothing special. His vocals aren't good, but I don't hate them. And the lyrics are fine. I don't see this sticking around here.

~My first reaction to Can't Knock The Hustle was as follows:
-I don't like Rivers singing the same note over and over and over again in the first verse
-Nothing fits together in this song. It feels like Weezer was drunk when they made this.
-Holy shit he's doing the same note thing again
-This song is super messy
Those criticisms still very much stand.

~You thought Marshmello being on Alt was pushing it? Well, now we have Post Malone and Swae Lee making music that's on Alterna- Wait this joke was already made. The Rex Orange County version is fine I guess? I still hate this guy's voice, but the chords here are pretty cool. I don't really care how this song does.

~Once again, BROCKHAMPTON is not an alternative band. I was not huge on iridescence as a whole, but this is one of the better songs off of it. The vocals are great, the production is good, and the lyrics are solid. But just overall the song is good, and I wouldn't mind seeing BROCKHAMPTON having a hit, even if it's unlikely.

~I don't really like Muse in general. This new has some terrible synth choice. I honestly don't think these synths would work for anyone, and especially not the choppy, half-yelled, awkward delivery of this guy. Let's hope that this doesn't stick around.

~Guiding Light very much feels like what you'd expect a Mumford & Sons song to sound like. Good vocals, but slightly lacking in most other areas. Though I do see this growing on me in the near future, and with that high debut it'll probably see some success here.

~Burn The House Down, Baby, and you should see me in a crown are very much still awful, Happier is very much still great, and Monster is very much now good.

Best Debut of the Week (returns don't count): BROCKHAMPTON - SAN MARCOS

SAN BLURBOS
~I'm a little sad to see On The 5 leave us. I was really enjoying this one.

~I'm also not pleased about the loss off the debut for Northern Lights. This song is very enjoyable, and I wish it was doing a bit better. But nope we have stuff like You're Somebody Else in the top 3 instead.

~I am quite happy to see Love It If We Made It fall down a bit. There is nothing good about this song at all to me, so I hope it continues this downward momentum.

~Fast Talk go back up.

~Why did Superposition even debut at #1 if it's just gonna fall to #4 this week? I mean, I'm not complaining, but it's kinda stupid.

~I quite like our top 2 right now, and I'm fine with them staying towards the top as long You're Somebody Else doesn't get back up there.

~I'm kinda pissed Lemon To A Knife Fight didn't come back.
