New Entrants
~I honestly don't know how I feel about Lucid Dreams debuting here. One the one hand, it's nice to see as I have often accused Hits 1 of being bias, so while they are still VERY biased it's nice to see that they will still allow hit rap songs here. On the other hand, the song is total shit. Basically, the beat is stolen, Juice sounds terrible, and the lyrics are XXXTENTACION levels of awful. With that said, I'm very conflicted on whether or not I want this song to do well. I guess we'll just see what happens.

~Lady Gaga brings us her second song currently on the countdown and oh my god this is so boring. Like between the minute long outro, the dull production, and the generic sappy lyrics this song is a total snooze-fest. I would say the only tolerable part of the entire song is Gaga's admittedly very strong vocal performance. This song single handedly killed any interest I had in seeing A Star Is Born. I really hope this flops here.

~I hate the newest release from Halsey, Without Me. Like full out hate. One could say "it makes me want to loathe". Halsey sounds like absolute shit here, as she goes totally flat on the high notes she desperately wants to hit. The production is dull. It drags on so much. Whenever this comes on I just immediately want it to end so so so so badly. The lyrics are so stupid. The whole thing is about how G-Eazy can't live without her, which is just so obnoxious in so many ways. To be fair, Halsey did help get G-Eazy a big hit, but also to be fair, No Limit is bigger than anything Halsey has ever done. And yet, this is becoming a huge hit. I get why the radio is getting on board, since "omg Halsey". But what I don't get is why the fuck people are actively choosing to stream and buy this? I feel bad for anyone who wastes their money on this shit. Not looking forward to when this hits #1.

Best Debut of the Week: umm... Lady Gaga - I'll Never Love Again (#36) I guess.

Hit-Bound

  • Steve Aoki/BTS - Waste It On Me (DEBUT)
  • Lauv/Julia Michaels - There's No Way
  • benny blanco/Halsey/Khalid - Eastside
  • Twenty One Pilots - Legend (DEBUT)
  • David Guetta/Anne-Marie - Don't Leave Me Alone
  • Alec Benjamin - Let Me Down Slowly
  • Post Malone/Swae Lee - Sunflower (DEBUT)
  • Shawn Mendes - Nervous
  • Little Mix/Nicki Minaj - Woman Like Me (DEBUT)
  • Camila Cabello - Consequences
  • Pitbull/Theron Theron - Free Free Free
  • Ariana Grande - breathin
  • Alex Aino - Big Mistake
  • Tiësto & Dzeko/Preme/Post Malone - Jackie Chan
~I know, it must be *shocking* that I hate a BTS song. Though I really don't mind the production here. It's a really annoying at parts, and overall very forgettable. But what I really hate here are the fucking vocals. These guys just cannot sing, highlighted by that god awful pre-chorus that is just catchy enough that it keeps getting stuck in my head. And the lyrics are nothing more than generic BTS nonsense. Let's let this drop out of Hit-Bound please.

~Basically, what I said about Waste It On Me can be applied to Legend as well. The vocals suck, the production is meh, the lyrics are nonsense.

~Sunflower is honestly amazing. The beat here is great, Swae Lee delivers one of his better vocal performances, and Post Malone delivers one of the smoothest vocal performance of his career. Even the lyrics here are pretty good. I'll give my full thoughts on this when it debuts on the countdown.

~Woman Like Me is very boring. There are quite a few problems with it, but instead of analyzing it I'll just post my first reactions to the song when I listened to it a couple weeks ago:
  • Why is Little Mix doing a trap song?
  • They sound weird
  • Nicki feels out of place
  • I can't take them seriously as badasses knowing they are the people behind Oops f/ Charlie Puth.
My Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
TIE: 1. benny blanco/Halsey/Khalid - Eastside
TIE: 1. Post Malone/Swae Lee - Sunflower
3. Ariana Grande - breathin
4. David Guetta/Anne-Marie - Don't Leave Me Alone
5. Camila Cabello - Consequences

My Bottom 5 Hit-Bound Picks (why not? there's enough songs I don't like for it):
1. Steve Aoki/BTS - Waste It On Me
2. Lauv/Julia Michaels - There's No Way
3. Shawn Mendes - Nervous
4. Alec Benjamin - Let Me Down Slowly
5. Twenty One Pilots - Legend

I Still See Your Blurbs In My Room
~In terms of our exits, Almost Love was fading on me fast. No complaints with that one leaving. We did get rid of two huge pieces of trash, however. Burn The House Down was a huge flop, and hopefully it'll be the last we hear from AJR on Hits 1. FRIENDS, on the other hand, was a huge hit for... reasons. You'll probably be seeing that one on a certain list of mine in about a month's time.

~High Hopes is still #1, which I'm fine since I like the song. But I would prefer Happier or Love Lies, even if I think the latter no longer has a chance at the #1. Knowing Hits 1 though, High Hopes will break the record for most weeks at #1. We'll just have to wait and see.

~I honestly couldn't be happier about our biggest jump and drop. Don't Go Breaking My Heart is awful in every sense of the word, and it having already flopped everywhere else doesn't help matters. Thunderclouds, on the other hand, is practically a perfect pop song. A great and unique beat, mesmerizing vocals, and interesting lyrics. I wish people would stop hating on this one.

~I would rather not have I'm A Mess is the top 3. I really only liked this at first because I was sick of Meant To Be, but I now see that it isn't good in the slightest. Please don't give Bebe another #1 here.

~To the great pleasure of it seems like everyone except for me, God is a woman is now in the top 10. I've frankly just heard this song way too many times at this point. It may grow back on me with time, but for now I'd like to see it fall.

~Listening to 30-26 was not a fun experience.

~Why the hell is I Wanna Know still here? Hits 1 doesn't stan Bea Miller (at least not to my knowledge) and they haven't picked up on anything new from NOTD, so maybe some part of the countdown really is based on votes? Unlikely, but it's possible.

~Can Body and Promises not flop here please?
