New Entrants
~First up this week we get a huge world hit in Body by Loud Luxury featuring brando. I honestly don't get all the hate for this song. The production is easily the best part of the song. That baseline is so good, and the rest of the beat is very good as well. brando's vocals fit the song very well. The lyrics aren't all that special, but they aren't actively bad so I'll take them. I'm a pretty big fan of this song, so I hope it does well here.

~I am not a fan of Walk The Moon. While I do like Shut Up and Dance, most of their music just fades on me very quickly. I do like the production here for the most part, but I really don't enjoy the weird beat stuff at the end. I find it very grating. I honestly can't get on board with Nicholas Petricca's voice. Something about it just really bothers me. Also the lyrics are complete nonsense. Knowing how well One Foot did here, I expect this to do well. I'm sure it won't be in blue for long, as it will continue fading on me, but it's fine for now.

~One of my favorite artists in Calvin Harris brings us a song this week with an artist I'm neutral on (Sam Smith) and an artist I hate (Jessie Reyez). Thankfully, Reyez is confined to backup vocals and saying "tonight" occasionally, which are easily the worst parts of the song. I think that Harris's production here is on point, as it's much more similar to his Funk Wav Bounces days instead of One Kiss. Don't get me wrong, I like One Kiss, but that album last year was on a different level. Smith's vocals aren't a great fit for EDM music, but they're fine here. I wouldn't mind seeing this be successful.

~Lastly, we get a song from the album I placed in purple last week, Shallow "by" Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper. Both artists sound very good here. Cooper has a nice voice, and Gaga is amazing as always. I enjoy the stripped-back acoustic production, though this could make it fade on me kinda fast. The lyrics are nice for now, but I'm sure I'll understand it more if I were to watch A Star Is Born (which I plan on doing eventually). It's solid for now though.

Best Debut of the Week: Loud Luxury/brando - Body (#37)

Hit-Bound

  • Halsey - Without Me
  • Alec Benjamin - Let Me Down Slowly (DEBUT)
  • Pitbull/Theron Theron - Free Free Free
  • David Guetta/Anne-Marie - Don't Leave Me Alone (DEBUT)
  • Shawn Mendes - Nervous
  • Camila Cabello - Consequences (DEBUT)
  • benny blanco/Halsey/Khalid - Eastside
  • Lauv/Julia Michaels - There's No Way (DEBUT)
  • Ariana Grande - breathin
  • Twenty One Pilots - My Blood
  • Tiësto & Dzeko/Preme/Post Malone - Jackie Chan
  • Alex Aino - Big Mistake
  • The Struts/Kesha - Body Talks
  • Jason Derulo & David Guetta/Nicki Minaj/Willy William - Goodbye
  • Lady Gaga - I'll Never Love Again (RE-ENTRY)
~I'll Never Love Again comes back, and it's honestly started boring me. I would rather not see this on the countdown.

~Let Me Down Slowly is the definition of mediocre. Alec Benjamin's voice isn't anything special, and it's frankly pretty bad. The production is minimalist, which does not work at all. The whole song feels very underwritten. I will forgot this song as soon as it inevitably drops out of Hit-Bound without debutingoly the countdown.

~David Guetta brings us his second song on currently on Hit-Bound. I think that Anne-Marie was a very good choice for a vocalist, as her voice fits this song pretty well. The build-up and drop are really great. I listened to most of Guetta's album 7, and this was by far the best track. I hope it debuts, but I doubt it will.

~Flashback to mid-March. I was feeling a little down, so I browsed the Spotify "Sad Songs" playlist and found this song called Consequences by Camila Cabello. I listened to it and thought "oh this is pretty good" and then saved the song. I kinda forgot about it for a few months until I decided to finally listen to Camila's self titled debut, where I re-discoverd the song and I fell back in love with it. Then it got released to pop, performed at the AMAs, and now it's on Hit-Bound. This song is beautiful, and Camila sounds really good. I'm sure this will debut eventually, so I'll give my full thoughts then.

~It should come as no surprise that Lauv and Julia Michaels collaborated. They have quite a few things in common:
a) the producers they have suck
b) the are terrible lyricists
c) they're terrible singers
d) they're forever destined to be one-hit wonders
I think that describes my thoughts on the song pretty well.

My Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. benny blanco/Halsey/Khalid - Eastside
2. Camila Cabello - Consequences
3. Tiësto & Dzeko/Preme/Post Malone - Jackie Chan
4. Ariana Grande - breathin
5. David Guetta/Anne-Marie - Don't Leave Me Alone

I'll Blurb You Everything (Tonight)
~I'm mixed on our exits. On The Loose had a very good run and will be making the year-end list easily. Top Down had really faded on me, and it was basically unknown everywhere else. Sit Next To Me had grown back on me and it's got good odds to make the year-end list here. Lastly, I'm sad about seeing No Brainer leaving us. I still liked the song, but I'm not overly surprised.

~Holy shit Lie fell a lot. It had the biggest drop of the year, And yes, I still hate the song, so good riddance to it. We also got another huge drop from another song I'm not fond of, in Weezer's cover of Africa. I believe this song had the 3rd biggest drop of the year, which I'm a little shocked by since it peaked at like #11. Thought Hits 1 would've kept it around longer.

~Three other songs had drops of over 10. And I am much less happy about them. Better Now follows the path of a typical Post Malone song on Hits 1, where it peaks in the top 10 then just collapses. Dropping out of the top 10, we have The Way I Am and Back To You. The Way I Am is fading elsewhere, and it's the weakest Voicenotes single so I'm not all that sad about it falling. However, I am very sad that Back To You is falling this fast. I wish this would've been a #1 hit here, instead of spending so much time at #2 and #3.

~I would appreciate if Thunderclouds stopped flopping.

~We got two new top 10 entrants, as well as a return from The Last of The Real Ones. I'm A Mess enters not only the top 10, but also the top 5. This song has seriously faded on me, to the point where it's in my bottom three picks. If it could not go to #1 that would be nice. Also, This Feeling took a big jump into the top 10 on it's third week. While I do like the song, the drop isn't all that good. But looking at how fast it's been rising I see this sticking around.

~It's pretty funny that 2002 is hitting new peaks here after it peaked hard everywhere else. 1999 is much better though, and they basically cover the same theme.

~In terms of our biggest jump(s), Tequila is so boring. I honestly cannot stand this, and I definitely don't think it's one of the best country songs this year. Then Hey Look Ma, I Made It jumps because Hits 1 stans Urie. I still refuse to review this song until it is a single (yes I am petty).

~I'm happy to see that Love Lies is still hitting new peaks. I do believe that the #1 bid for this song is over, but who knows?

~Burn The House Down really shouldn't be here anymore. It's one of AJR's worst songs, but Hits 1 has an odd fascination with these guys.
