I had a few movies I was going back and forth between for #10, but I decided on the one that I think will not necessarily be the most good, but will be the most interesting.
10. Frozen 2
Release Date: 11/22/19
The original Frozen was by no means a great movie. I think it was very entertaining, and the soundtrack's got some bangers, but overall I think the movie was awkwardly paced. But overall, it was a pretty enjoyable and rewatchable movie. This sequel just has me very curious. They only trailer dropped back in like February and they've barely released anything since. I believe they're still "filming" (or whatever the equivalent for animated movies is) which is slightly worrying, since the movie comes out soon. But the thing about knowing nothing about a massive blockbuster like this is that I'm super curious man! This movie gets a spot on the list less on how excited I am for the movie, and more how interested I am in.
9. Ad Astra
Release Date: 9/18/19
I enjoy mystery thrillers. I enjoy movies set in space. I enjoy Brad Pitt. This movie is a mystery thriller set in space starring Brad Pitt. Enough said.
8. Last Christmas
Release Date: 11/8/19
I really dug the trailer for this one. It looks like a sweet, fun, Christmas rom com. Does it look like a totally generic Christmas rom com? Yeah, yeah it does. But I also just enjoy that genre so much that's not even close to being a problem for me. I could definitely see this one disappointing me, but I've got some hope.
7. Knives Out
Release Date: 11/27/19
I absolutely adore the 1985 movie "Clue", an adaptation of the classic board game. At the most basic level, it's a fun whodunnit, one of my favorite overall genres. But the movie has this very distinctive and sharp sense of humor, which I think may be the same with Knives Out. Even if it doesn't have the same irresistible charm of Clue, I still think it'll be an entertaining movie that fits into one of my favorite genres.
6. Charlie's Angels
Release Date: 11/15/19
Continuing on with the trend of "I love this genre so I'll see the movie", 2019's spy thriller! Even when these movies are at the worst and very dumb, I still get a ton of enjoyment out of them. For me at least, the more over the top and ridiculous the better, since it's hard to really believe spy movies. I think Charlie's Angels will be a bright, ridiculous movie with some solid enough action. But it also may be a disaster. Either way it'll be fun.
5. Jumanji: The Next Level
Release Date: 12/13/19
Here's a movie solely getting my excited based on the strength of the previous film and how much I love the cast. Because those trailers don't look THAT good. They're not exactly bad, but I'm not sure I'm sold on the idea. However, I hated the trailers for the first one and ended up really liking that movie. Anyways, it'll have Dwayne the Rock as an old man so can it really be that bad?
4. It: Chapter 2
Release Date: 9/6/19
I only watched the first It movie a couple days ago. But safe to say, it got me pretty hyped for this sequel. I really found It to just be a really interesting take on classic horror movies, and the great cast really doesn't hurt either. The opening scene is probably one of the greatest scenes I've ever seen. Also this new cast has James McAvoy and Bill Hader. just yes, yes, yes. However, I do have reservations about this movie. A lot of the appeal of the original was the fact that the main characters were kids, making it feel fresh and interesting. I'm not sure how will this will translate to adults though. But with that aside, I'm very excited for this.
3. 21 Bridges
Release Date: 11/22/19
I have basically no thoughts about this aside form the fact that it's an action movie starring Chadwick Boseman directed by the Russos. But yeah that sounds promising.
2. Jojo Rabbit
Release Date: 10/18/19
This just looks like an incredible indie movie with a great vision and great message. Also this cast is just amazing: Taika Waititi (who is also the director), Sam Rockwell, Scarlet Johansson, Rebel Wilson....just wow. I have every high expectations for this one, so I do hope it lives up to them.
Honorable Mentions:
HM #1: The Addams Family (10/11/19)
This looks like Hotel Transylvania done right.
HM #2: Arctic Dogs (11/8/19)
Based on the trailer this kinda seems like it could be the worst movie ever made. So yeah I'm curious.
HM #3: Cats (12/20/19)
I'm not too hyped about this but hey it's a holiday season movie and has Taylor Swift so yeah I'll see it.
HM #4: Star Wars Episode 9: Rise of the Skywalker (12/20/19)
I'm very over Star Wars and I'm not particularly excited for this. But for some reason I'll still end up seeing it.
HM #5: Ford v Ferrari (11/15/19)
Moving into the category of "movies that look good but I'm not sure I'll see" we have Ford v Ferrari. It looks quite fun but ultimately it doesn't quite look like my thing.
HM #6: A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (11/22/19)
I've never seen Mr. Rogers and didn't watch the documentary about him from last year. So while this does look good, I just don't see myself going to watch it.
HM #7: Queen and Slim (11/27/19)
This looks really good but it also looks like a movie that might be kinda hard to watch, which definitely could lead to me just passing on it.
HM #8: 1917 (12/25/19...sorta)
I really want to see this but it's only getting released in some theaters this year, so I don't know if I'll actually see it this year. But whenever I can, I will see it.
