Making Totally Baseless and Probably Completely Inaccurate Predictions About the Rest of 2019's Movies

I think the title says it all. I'm gonna go through week by week and try (and fail!) to predict how the movies for the rest of this year will do. I'll update the post throughout the year as the results come in.

8/9/19: I think this week will be a tight race between "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" and "Dora and the Lost City of Gold". I think both will have a strong base to start with. At least for me these are both things from my childhood being made into much more serious movies per se, "Dora" more so than "Scary Stories", so I'll probably go to see both. If I have to make a final prediction, I'll say "Dora" takes the top spot, with "Scary Stories" having a strong first week at #2.
(I wrote this one before the official results were out so like)
Result: WRONG. "Scary Stories" did end up at #3 so I was kinda close there, but "Dora" landed at #4, with "Hobbs & Shaw" holding the top spot.

8/16/19: There's quite a few movies this week that don't seem like they'll make a ton of money, but they'll likely place high on this chart due to the currently low box office totals. I assume "The Angry Birds Movie 2" will top this week's chart, with "Hobbs & Shaw" slipping to #2. #3 and #4 will see debuts from "Where'd You Go, Bernadette?" and "47 Meters Down: Uncaged". "The Lion King" will slip down to #5, with "Good Boys" debuting at #6.
Result: WRONG. To my great pleasure, “Good Boys” took the #1 this week. Loved that movie. “Angry Birds 2” underperformed compared to its predecessor at #4, which sucks since the sequel was actually good. Meanwhile, “47 Meters” and “Bernadette” did poorly at at #7 ad #11 respectively.

8/23/19: Uhhhh I don't know. I'd say the two movies with a decent shot are "Ready or Not" based on being a well reviewed thriller, and "Angel Has Fallen" based on being part of an established franchise. But does anyone even like the "Olympus Has Fallen" movies? I don't think so, but hey, action movies. So "Angel Has Fallen" gets the #1, "Ready or Not" is #2.
Result: 50-50. “Angel” did end up at #1 (sadly, movie was mediocre af). However, to my great dismay, the amazing “Ready or Not” only landed at #6. *sigh*

8/30/19: God I have no fucking idea. There's no big releases this week. Soooooo "Angel Has Fallen" holds at #1.
Result: CORRECT. Hey I got one right!

9/6/19: "It" is the highest grossing horror movie of all time. So I think it's fair to bet that "It Chapter Two" will go to #1 this week, especially considering it's strongest competition is....non existent?
Results: CORRECT

9/13/19: I think it's a pretty fair bet that "It Chapter 2" will hold at #1 for a second week at least. It does have a couple challengers this week, though. "Hustlers" has the big name cast as well as the fact that (I believe) it's based on the very controversial Cardi B stories. But at the same time, I can't see this movie making that much money. "The Goldfinch" seems like it's a good movie, but also too niche to really get *that* big. My bet will be "The Goldfinch" getting a weak #2 with "Hustlers" debuting somewhere around #4-#6.
Update (9/1/19): I'm changing my predictions up a bit. I think "Goldfinch" will land at #5, everything else I stand by.
Results: WRONG. Hey look just like everyone else I underrated "Hustlers" and overrated "Goldfinch". Shocker.

9/20/19: There are some legitimately very big releases this week, with a new Rambo movie, a Downtown Abbey movie, and a new Brad Pitt movie all hitting theaters. "Rambo: Last Blood" seems like the studio thinks it'll go to #1, but I'm not so sure. I don't think the trailers have been particularly well received, and I'm just not sure how much interest there is in Rambo anymore. However, I think a Brad Pitt lead space mystery such as "Ad Astra" will be a bit of a powerhouse at the theater. So I'll say "Ad Astra" gets the #1 with "Rambo" close behind at #2. "Downtown Abbey" will flop at #7.
Update (9/1/19): "Rambo" beats "Ad Astra" fo the #1.

9/27/19: I think the big release of this week, "Abominable", will take the #1, but it'll be pretty week there. Either "It Chapter 2" or "Ad Astra" will be at #2, with "Rambo" falling to #4.
Update (9/1/19): Flip "Ad Astra" & "Rambo"
Update (9/8/19): I’ll say surprise hit “Downton Abbey” will be #2 this week, with “Rambo” and “Astra” being #4 and #6 respectively.

10/4/19: "Joker" will have #1 with. a. bullet.

10/11/19: We've got a couple of decently big releases this week, with Will Smith's "Gemini Man", a new Zombieland movie titled "Zombieland: Double Tap", and "The Addams Family" hitting theaters. I don't see any of them being strong enough to challenge "Joker", but I do see "Gemini Man" debuting at #2. "The Addams Family" will probably get around #4, with "Zombieland" debuting just outside of the top 5.

10/18/19: The latest Disney blockbuster, "Maleficent: Mistress of Evil", hits theater this week, and I assume it'll easily take the #1. There's also a movie called "Jojo Rabbit", which just looks amazing but I can't see it doing well.
Update (9/1/19): Still rooting for ya Jojo

10/25/19: So there's like no big movies this week. "Maleficent" gets a second week at #1 I guess.

11/1/19: The biggest releases are "Terminator: Dark Fate" and "Harriet", a movie about Harriet Tubman. I think "Terminator" will pretty easily take the #1, regardless of the quality of the film (it looks terrible haha). "Harriet" will probably fall just below "Maleficent" at #3.

11/8/19: This week will be a very tight race between "Terminator" on week two and "Doctor Sleep" on week one. I think "Doctor Sleep" will have a very good shot at the #1, as it's the sequel to The motherfucking Shining, like the scariest movie ever made. But at the same time, I wonder if enough people will go to casually see the sequel to the scariest movie ever, and considering it's probably rated R where as "Terminator" is likely rated PG-13, so both these factors will work against it. I honestly think those factors will kill "Doctor Sleep" and "Terminator" will score a second week at #1, with "Doctor Sleep" at a strong #2.

11/15/19: I think the two big contenders this week will be "Ford v Ferrari" and "Charlie's Angels". Though honestly, it's not that much of a competition, as I'm pretty confident "Charlie's Angels" will grab the #1 this week, with "Ford" probably landing around #4.
Update (9/1/19): Swap "Charlie's Angels" and "Ford v Ferrari"

11/22/19: "Frozen II" makes a shit ton of money and takes the #1 very strongly. However, I think "21 Bridges" will be able to land at #2, as the Russos and Chadwick Boseman are both on the upswing right now. But yeah, you really can't compete with Frozen.

11/29/19: Neither of the lists I'm using for this post show a new movie releasing this week, so I think it's fair to say that "Frozen II" and "21 Bridges" will hold the top 2 spots.

12/6/19: The only real "big" release this week is sigh "Playmobil: The Movie". But since the movie sounds completely awful and like a total disaster, I don't think it'll have the legs to beat out "Frozen II", even on it's third week. I'll say "Playmobil" goes to #2.

12/13/19: Here's an easy one: "Jumanji: The Next Level" does insanely well and takes the #1 very strongly on it's first week. Nice for them that they aren't competing with a new Star Wars movie first week this time. There's also a "Black Christmas" remake coming out this week, but I really can't see it going higher than #5.

12/20/19: "Star Wars: Rise of the Skywalker" takes the #1 and it's not even close. However, "Cats" doesn't do too badly for itself, as it debuts at #2. "Jumanji" slips to #3.

12/27/19: I really can't see anything but "Star Wars" as #1 here. I think "Cats" and "Jumanji" will swap positions, as "Jumanji" gets a boost from being a family fun movie during the holidays. The top 5 will be rounded out by new releases "Spies in Disguise" and "1917" in that order.

I hope you guys all enjoyed reading this! I know I had a blast writing it, so if you guys liked it I'll do more stuff like this.
