~Only one new entrant on Hit-Bound this week. I am not a fan of Julia Michaels in any way. I think her voice is absolutely awful, and she just does not know her vocal range. She sounds decent when she is featured on tracks (I Miss You, Hurt Somebody, etc.) only because they know her range better than she does. With all of that said, Jump is not an awful song. The production is catchy enough and I can tolerate it for now. I don't see myself growing into much more in the future.
~FAKE LOVE left this week, but it'll be back soon.

Entrants and Exits:
~As far as our exits go, How Long has been a favorite of mine since it was released, and I'm glad it was fairly successful on the countdown and got a couple weeks at the top. How Long, you will be missed. I forgot Let Me existed while I was gone so that song exiting means nothing. I'm disappointed that Pray spent a mere two weeks on the countdown, making it the shortest tenured song of the year so far. I liked Over My Head, but it wasn't popular elsewhere so I'm okay with it exiting. Lastly, we lost a huge piece of trash in Sober Up. Thank God that this song is gone. It's total garbage, and was very overrated here. I hope this is the last we hear from AJR.
~I really like Sugarland. When I reviewed their latest album for my last Billboard 200 post, I said that I loved their whole album. This very much includes Babe. The vocals in it are great, and Taylor Swift has a nice contribution. It seems to be headed for a fairly quick exit, which is really too bad.
~I'm glad that James Dean got to debut, despite being unknown elsewhere. It's a very fun song to listen to. I like to lyrical content, as it's a song that isn't all bragging. I'm not a huge fan of rock in general, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying this song.
~I don't love High Hopes the way I once did, but I still find it enjoyable. Pray For The Wicked was a fantastic album, and this song proves that. The lyrics are great, the production is good, and Brendon Urie's vocals are beyond incredible. This song jumps a lot soon, and I expect it to stay up high for a while due to Hits 1's love for Brendon.
~I grew into Let You Be Right a bit. I'm not a huge fan of Meghan Trainor in general, and I like No Excuces more than this, but it's good for what it is. Her vocals have improved for sure. However, I think she still struggles at writing good lyrics. I don't her "passive-agressiveness" in this song. I doubt it will do too well here.
~Lastly, we have Hits 1's awful "radio edit" of I Like It. The real version of this song is my favorite song of the moment. But this edit it just not okay. Apparently, Hits 1 believes general audiences can't handle having Spanish on their radios, which is total bullshit. The same thing happened with Despacito last year. And now they've moved on to believing people can't handle hearing rap music, picking up on God's Plan and Nice For What way later than they should, and instead they have songs like I Wanna Know up at #9 on their countdown. They need to stop doing all of this stuff.
Hit-Bound:
- Big Boi - All Night
- MNEK/Hailee Steinfeld - Colour
- lovelytheband - broken
- Dan + Shay - Tequila (DEBUT)
- Julia Michaels/Trippie Redd - Jump
- Backstreet Boys - Don't Go Breaking My Heart
- Alessia Cara - Growing Pains (DEBUT)
- Train/Cam/Travie McCoy - Call Me Sir (DEBUT)
- Bebe Rexha - I'm A Mess (DEBUT)
- Post Malone - Better Now (DEBUT)
- Madison Beer - Home With You (DEBUT)
- Fall Out Boy - The Last Of The Real Ones
- BTS - FAKE LOVE (RE-ENTRY)
- Cole Redding - Father Father
~We got an unwelcome re-entry from FAKE LOVE. I'm going to take this opportunity to point out that BTS fans claim the lyrics of this song are deep. Read them for yourself and you'll see what I'm talking about.
~If you've read my Billboard 200 posts, you'll know that I enjoy most country music. Tequila is not different. It catchy and chill and just overall a good song. It's also nice to see Hits 1 picking up on songs from artist that they haven't before.
~I don't like Alessia Cara that much in general. All of her music just bores me. Growing Pains is nothing new for her. I just kinda zone out while listening to it. Also, I don't like her voice all that much.
~We got debuts from two YouTube 15 veterans. Call Me Sir is Train's worst song to date, and I don't like much of their music in general. The lead singer's voice is intolerable. The production is annoying. The lyrics are beyond stupid. And this type of song should not be slow. Cam sounds decent, but adding Travie McCoy was unnecessary. I'm praying that this one drops out soon. On the other hand, Home With You is a very good song. I really like Madison Beer's voice, and the production is solid as well.
~I've been enjoying I'm A Mess and Better Now since they were both released. They are both steps-up from each artist's previous single. Better Now is doing well elsewhere, and Hits 1 likes Post Malone, so I expect this one to do well. I'm A Mess hasn't charted anywhere else yet, but Hits 1 were the first to pick up on Meant To Be so I'll give it time.
~Three songs left us this week. Nevermind took a week off but it'll be back soon. Good riddance to Personal. That song was really annoying. Lastly, we lost Tattoo, which was a song that I really liked. It's a shame that it didn't do well anywhere. Tattoo, you will be missed.

Entrants and Exits:
~We lost three old #1s. I was getting sick of both Havana and Let Me Go, but I grew back into them. I hope they do well on the year-end list. Thunder, however, is a very different story. I really don't like that song, but I think it has potential to be the #1 song of the year. I hope that will not be the case.
~I already talked about Growing Pains in this post.
~I honestly just find Don't Go Breaking My Heart to be annoying. I don't think the Backstreet Boys sound good in it, and the production is mediocre at best. And, despite what everyone is saying, the lyrics are the most generic and boring part of the song. Someone please explain to me why people like this song.
~Our best debut of the week comes from Fall Out Boy. The Last Of The Real Ones is a super catchy and fun song. It's really the only good song on MANIA. Given Hits 1's love for Fall Out Boy, this will probably do very well, and I'm here for it.
Hit-Bound:
- Julia Michaels/Trippie Redd - Jump
- Justin Timberlake - SoulMate (DEBUT)
- lovelytheband - broken
- Dan + Shay - Tequila
- Big Boi - All Night
- Madison Beer - Home With You
- Bebe Rexha - I'm A Mess
- Train/Cam/Travie McCoy - Call Me Sir
- MNEK/Hailee Steinfeld - Colour
- The Chainsmokers/Drew Love - Somebody (DEBUT)
- Brown & Gray - Top Down (DEBUT)
- Post Malone - Better Now
- Cole Redding - Father Father
- BTS - FAKE LOVE
- Dennis Lloyd - Nevermind
~SoulMate is major step down from Say Something. The production on this one is a little boring, but JT still sounds pretty good. This could be around for a while, and I'm fine with that I guess.
~Somebody is the best song The Chainsmokers have released in a while. Drew Love sounds really great in it, and while Andrew Taggart's vocals are still pretty mediocre the rest of the song is good. I would like to see some success out of this one.
~Top Down is another solid country song, so I enjoy it for now. I don't know if it's going to last with me, though.
My Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks:
1. Post Malone - Better Now
2. MNEK/Hailee Steinfeld - Colour
3. Bebe Rexha - I'm A Mess

Great post! (Sober Up ain't that bad :/)
ReplyDeleteThanks. I actually liked it at one point, so maybe I'll grow back into it some day
DeleteNice post. And I totally agree with you on Don’t Go Breaking My Heart. I have no idea why so many people like that song. It’s not awful, but it’s pretty mediocre and quite overrated among the blogging community.
