10,000 Pageview Special: A Travis Scott Christmas - Expanded Billboard Overview (Week of 12/8/18)

Is this a lazy excuse for a 10,000 pageview special because I'm busy with year-end stuff? Yes, yes it is.

2. Ariana Grande - thank u, next (#1) [-1] {3 Weeks At #1}
1. Travis Scott/Drake/Swae Lee - SICKO MODE (#1) [+1] {1st Week At #1}

~Via a Skrillex remix and a discount/bundle, SICKO MODE was able to steal the #1 spot. I'll be shocked if it lasts more than one week up there, but damn I'm happy about it.

~Off of strong radio gains and great streaming, Better enters the top 30 at last. I do quite like this song. It's very chill, but in a good way. Khalid sounds great, and the layers on his voice sounds great. Also I think the lyrics here are pretty good. So overall great song.

~Holy shit that hook in Leave Me Alone is grating. LEEEEAVE MEEE ALOOOOONE. Flipp Dinero is a terrible rapper/singer/whatever he's trying to do. The lyrics are dumb and obnoxious. And the production is dull and generic. I'd rather not see this become a hit.

~A Holly Jolly Christmas is just pure fun. I just can't resist the pure cheeriness and sweetness of this song. I do hope it can reach the top 20 this year.

~I do like Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree since its a lot of fun. But like there's one big problem: Brenda Lee's voice is kinda annoying. I like the rest of the song enough to put it in green, however.

~It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year never really clicked with me. Maybe it's the gospel vocals that sound just off rhythm. Maybe it's Andy Williams himself, as he has a very generic voice. Maybe its that they talk about ghost stories in a Christmas song. Like dude, wrong holiday. So while its not bad, its not great either.

~The biggest modern holiday song is back! And yeah I love it. Is it cheesy and stupid? Yes. Does that matter at all? Hell no. Mariah sounds really good here, and the lyrics are really sweet. The production is the prefect mix between Christmas-y and legitimately good. Overall, I like this outside of just being a Christmas song. It's a great song and hopefully it can hit the top 5 this year.

Billboard 200
Since the Billboard 200 still isn't out I just have to go based off of what Chart Data posted.
Out of the top 10:
Metro Boomin - Not All Heroes Wear Capes (#10) [1 Week At #1]
Trippie Redd - A Love Letter To You 3 (#9)
The Greatest Showman: Reimagined (#3)
Mumford & Sons - Delta (#1) [1 Week At #1]

10. Lil Baby & Gunna - Drip Harder (#12) [+2]
9. The Greatest Showman (#19) [+10] {2 Weeks At #1}
8. Drake - Scorpion (#8) [=] {5 Weeks At #1}
7. Pentatonix - Christmas Is Here! (#17) [+10]
6. Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody Soundtrack (#6) [=]
5. Michael Bublé - Christmas (#20) [+15]
4. Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper - A Star Is Born Soundtrack (#4) [=] {3 Weeks At #1}
3. Michael Bublé - love (#2) [-1]
2. 6ix9ine - DUMMY BOY (DEBUT)
1. Travis Scott - ASTROWORLD (#7) [+6] {3rd Week At #1}

~Quite a lot of the time the strength of a trap album comes down to three things, since there's basically no chance the lyrics will be good. The first is the production, the second is the performer, and the third are the guest features. Let's see how our newest trap album, 6ix9ine's DUMMY BOY does with this. Well first of all the production is abysmal throughout. The beats vary from boring to actively terrible. So the production isn't very good, how is the main performer? Well, 6ix9ine takes on two different styles throughout the album: obnoxious yelling and creepy whispering. So he's pretty bad. But hey I'm sure the guest features will be good right? I mean, he's got one on nearly every song. And there's so legitimate big names here like Nicki Minaj and Kanye West. Yet somehow, 6ix is able to make all his guests terrible. First up is Bobby Shmurda with his verse literally recorded off of a phone in prison so yeah its pretty terrible. We have Nicki giving two of her worst performances to date, as well as Kanye doing terrible twice. Lil Baby does his thing which sucks as always. Tory Lanez brings his annoying pitchy voice which mixes terrible with the beat. Anuell AA delivers two fairly lifeless performances. Gunna does his thing which sucks as always. DJ SpinKing and Murda Beatz make some seriously terrible beats and yet for some reason get feature credits. TrifeDrew is there I suppose. And A Boogie Wit da Hoodie delivers.... an actually good verse? Yeah not gonna mince words, A Boogie's verse is easily the highlight of the album. Though seeing how terrible the rest of this is, thats barely a compliment. Skip this.

~I said last week that I didn't like love all that much as it was a Christmas album masquerading as a normal album. I did not expect I would have to review a Michael Bublé Christmas album the next week. I think I kinda forgot to say last week that I really do like Bublé's voice. I think he's a great singer. The production on this album is pretty good at points, as it takes the basic foundation of Christmas songs and makes them a little more instrument driven and fun. I guess I also slightly prefer this to love as this owns up to being a Christmas album where as love did not. I don't really have all that much else to mention so let's just move on.

~Is Pentatonix even a real acapella group anymore? Like, I'm sure they technically are. But it sure doesn't sound like it at times. And for the record, I don't find that to be that much of a bad thing. I don't like acapella. So what do they have for us today? Well, look, if you like Pentatonix you'll like this. It's exactly what they've released the past few years. But the problem is I don't like Pentatonix all that much. I just kinda get bored listening to them. I think all of the reason for that is the lack of instruments. I get that's their thing, but I don't like it all that much. And especially when you take away any personality from the band members it just doesn't really click with me. I seriously cannot tell when Kelly Clarkson and Maren Morris are singing on their songs since everything just kinda blends together. So why do I still have this as decent? It's perfectly pleasant background music I suppose, and thats kinda what its meant for.

3. Michael Bublé (#3) [=]
2. Ariana Grande (#4) [+2] {3 Weeks At #1}
1. Queen (#2) [+1] {3rd Week At #1}

~Billie Eilish has become a huge guilty pleasure of mine. Sorry.

~Is there really any question as to who gets best week? It has to go to Travis Scott for getting a #1 hit and a #1 album being robbed of a #1 album. Worst week goes to all songs relying on AC radio because it's Christmas season.

~So apparently all I have to do to see an EDM chart where stuff happens is double how much I blog about. Well then I also have to remember BTS exists so maybe the old way was best.

Holiday 100:
10. José Feliciano - Feliz Navidad (#7) [-3]

2. Andy Williams - It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year (#3) [+1]
1. Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You (#1) [=] {31st Week At #1}

~Last Christmas is a favorite of mine. I really like the production here, and I love their vocals. The lyrics are also more unique than your typical Christmas song.

~I never loved The Christmas Song. Like I get that its super iconic, but the tempo is a little too slow for my liking.

~I've always loved Jingle Bell Rock. This is one of the songs that I look forward to when it comes on the radio.

~Feliz Navidad is a bop.

~Does anyone dislike Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer? Because they shouldn't.

~Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow is a classic (though I did think there was only one "Let It Snow" in the title).

Hot 100 Bubbling Under:
Out of the top 10:
13. Lil Yachty/Offset/Lil Baby - Mickey (#7) [-6]

Debuted on the Hot 100:
90. Jacquees - You

10. 6ix9ine/Gunna - FEEFA (DEBUT)
9. Jake Owen - Down To The Honkytonk (#6) [-3]
8. Katy Perry - Cozy Little Christmas (DEBUT)
7. 6ix9ine/Kanye West - KANGA (DEBUT)
6. Jordan Davis - Take It From Me (#5) [-1]
5. Aminé - Reel It In (#14) [+9]
4. Blake Shelton - Turnin' Me On (#1) [-3] {2 Weeks At #1}
3. Billie Eilish - bellyache (#12) [+9]
2. Scotty McCreery - This Is It (#3) [+1]
1. Billie Eilish - idontwannabeyouanymore (#2) [+1] {1st Week At #1}

~I like bellyache way more than I should. Like the lyrics suck. But the production and Eilish's vocals are on point here. I hope to see this on the Hot 100 soon.

~See my review on DUMMY BOY for my thoughts on this new song. Though I do find it kinda interesting how a lot of the lyrics are from other songs. At least it prevents some of 6ix's typical lyricism. Also the Macklemore line is legitimately funny.

~Reel It In has an off key synth (how does that even happen?) with Aminé sounding totally bored and checked out. Let's not let this chart, ok guys?

~Does it get much worse than 6ix9ine and Gunna in the same song? I'm going to hope the answer to that remains as no for a very long time.

~I'm judging Cozy Little Christmas based on a 46 second preview on Katy's YouTube because it's an Amazon exclusive song. And it sounds... fine. I don't know, I didn't even hear a minute of it.

  2. Great post! I think Leave Me Alone is getting caught in between years so don't worry. Also, Dummy Boy is actually this week's #1 from my knowledge, beating Astroworld by 200 units

    1. They recounted this week's billboard 200 and didn't post it yet for some reason so I don't blame you :)

  3. I'd say skip the rock chart and do alternative but both charts are not that good although I'm glad Queen is having a bit of a revival.
